VZ 58s Seen in the new 007 Movie, "No Time to Die".
« on: October 10, 2021, 04:39:31 PM »
I watched the new 007 movie last night, and saw a few scenes which had VZ 58s in them, and at least two errors regarding them.  In the opening scene, the lone bad guy is using a folding stock VZ 58 (with a continuity error: at first he is holding a rifle with an "eared" front sight, but a few minutes later is shown holding what should be the same rifle, which now has a closed "ring" front sight!  Bonus points to whomever can tell me what is wrong with having that particular rifle in the scene, or perhaps more precisely, what is wrong with that rifle in the scene?).  The second occasion is near the end of the film, when Bond is fighting his way up the stairs of the control tower.  For a split second, I was able to see the ribbed dust cover of a VZ 58 while it was being held by a bad guy, and one or two other scenes where I briefly saw the rounded, sticking-out-at-an-angle bolt handle of a VZ 58 (as opposed to the squared off, perpendicular bolt handle of an AK) during a few other fight sequences.  Many of the fight scenes were shot in dark rooms, so it was hard for me to see what firearms were being used.  I'm quite certain that I even saw Bond in one sequence, carrying a Browning Hi Power as his personal sidearm, instead of his usual Walther PPK! (I saw the ambi safety levers and distinctive grip panels of the pistol for a split second, when he dropped it into a drawer during the scene where he was in his island house).  The movie itself was great, BTW!

Yep, looks like the Vz58 compact was a bad guys gun -- and most of your other observations appear to be on point: http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/No_Time_to_Die

FWIW, I haven't seen the film yet.

It's a film. The intended audience is not this forum. Most people don't know a VZ58 from a Glock 7.

The Vz58 Pistol was popular in "Skyfall" as well:

Great vid -- first I've seen it.  But looks like special effects folks understated the flash and blast for 7.62x39 out of those compacts...

I watched this last night and was surprised to see all the VZ58s, AKS-74s, and MP7s.

Apparently, none of the professional assassins need to pull out and use the stock on the MP7. Point shoot it like a big pistol and get A-zone hits every time  ;D

Decent movie.

I don’t know if this has been noted here before, but I just noticed that the female Viet Cong “sniper” at the end of Full Metal Jacket was using a Vz58 rather than the usual ubiquitous ChiCom milled AK47.

I was watching a mini documentary on how R. Lee Ermey had managed to land the part of Drill Sergeant Hartman (as a former Marine drill sergeant himself, Ermy was originally hired by Stanley Kubrick to be a “technical advisor” on Marine boot camp training) and eventually convinced Kubrick to use him in the role of the Paris Island drill sergeant — which he actually was from ‘65 - ‘67. The actor who was originally cast as the drill sergeant ended up playing the small, but memorable role of the Huey helicopter M-60 gunner.

Back in the day, Kubrick had solicited VHS “auditions” from all comers to play roles in the then upcoming film. I’m sure he received thousands of tapes.:.I sent one in, but obviously wasn’t chosen!

Anyway, I just now happened to notice the VC “sniper” was sporting a Vz58.
