Gauging interest in an enlarged safety for the P07/P09
« on: October 17, 2021, 03:18:17 PM »
Hi everyone, new guy here. I'm working with a new firearms enhancement manufacturer, and I'm trying to gauge interest in the subject product. They had said they would ultimately need to be able to sell around 500 units to make it worth tooling up for it.

I'm primarily a DA/SA guy with my P07, but I can see the merits in SAO/cocked and locked. Would anyone be interested in a P07/P09 extended/enlarged safety lever?

Thanks in advance!

Some will want it. I prefer the decocker on my CZ's. You joined the forum to gauge interest in your part. That's cool but the largest majority of CZ owners are not even members here. No real way to know if your part will sell unless people can see some sort of example or a prototype. The phrase "build they and they will come" rings true. For that matter "nothing ventured nothing gained"

The safety on the 07 & 09 is pretty easily manipulatable. Not that it wouldn’t sell but what would be the benefit of an extended safety lever?

I personally feel like the safety thumb pad is too small. My preference would be if the thumbpads were reversed between the decocker and the safety, since disengaging the safety may need to be done under duress, but actuating the decocker never should be. The fact that the safety lever tapers from the middle to the edges seems a bad choice to me (as in, I can't think of any other SA pistol using such a design). The decocker's taper from a thin top to a thick bottom seems a much better design.

Welcome aboard from NJ even though you may have ulterior motives.
Wife and I both have P07s, but prefer the decocker configuration. I converted mine to safety operation, but then reverted. We both like the P07, but it's not a likely candidate for enhancement aside from sights and lights.

I run decoker on my P07. I think you would have to come up with a prototype or something so people can see if a larger safety is an advantage over the stock safety.

I sometimes feel like I would appreciate a thicker (extended further from the frame) safety lever on my P09, because with my grip, I can't quite get a consistent purchase on the lever when sweeping it down. However, the safety is tapered from the middle toward the edges because it needs to actuate in both directions, as opposed to the decocker, which is spring loaded to return to "home position".

Good point!
