SP 01 to SAO
« on: October 26, 2021, 09:50:10 AM »
Has anyone converted a CZ 75 SP 01 to SAO?  I feel a slight difference in ergonomics between the 75B and SP-01 (with a preference towards the latter).  Thoughts?

Countless people have made the conversion. Copy and paste this into your preferred search engine:

Kind of depends on which model SP-01 you have.

SP-01 Tactical decocker?  I don't think it's possible unless you want a gun without a safety.

SP-01 with the manual safety.  Should be fairly easy - just remove the disco although I think you'll wind up with a lot of trigger pretravel.  Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys on the forum can comment on that.  You really need a single action trigger, preferably one that lets you adjust both over travel and pretravel to get full advantage of the conversion.  I recently converted my steel P-01 manual safety to SAO.

I added a few extra parts and did a little extra work.  I had an extra CZ 75B hammer that I used so I could reduce the hammer hooks slightly to reduce some of the trigger creep and hammer camming.  I also removed the half cock notch - the factory SAOs I have don't have it.  I found the half cock notch was hitting the sear during the trigger press if I had the trigger overtravel screw set to reduce overtravel too much.

Not hard - try it without the disco first to see if you like it and then go from there.

Pete

I guess my question wasn't that clear.  I know it's possible to convert.  i was really asking if folks are glad they did it.  I see a few understood the question.  Anyone regret going to SAO?

I have converted several of my 75 variants to SAO and then back to DA/SA. SAO dose not do much for me. I can get a very comparable SA pull in DA/SA with the right tuning and i never developed an appreciation for the flat SAO Triggers. It requires more work but then working on CZs is fun.

As i see it SAO offers the option of using the flat SAO Triggers and an easy way to adjust out some or all (depending on configuration) of the SA pretravel using the upper set screw in some of the SAO Triggers. SAO conversion alone dose not significantly improve the SA Trigger pull. Improving the SA pull is generally the product of other parts and tuning.

In the end SAO conversion is not a permanent modification, you can always go back to DA/SA if you choose.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)
