« on: December 02, 2021, 11:21:32 AM »
Good afternoon, recently picked up a TA90 with a G serial number.
I am looking to see if it is pre 88 or a 88 series so I know what magazines to look for …any help is greatly appreciated

Welcome to the Clone section of the Forum!  :)

Pictures would help greatly, in placing the model.   ::)   The G Serial Number prefix is largely unknown and I'm going to need more info.
In particular, what Safety does it use.  Frame mounted or Slide Mounted?  Also, which importer?  Could this be a recent Israeli import?

You have a pre series 88. Is there a rectangle with two letters in it stamped on the right side of the frame above the trigger? If so, what two letters do you have?

No box with letters. Other side says excam for instructions

Thankyou for posting those pics!  :)  That helps matters considerably!  :)

Note that Excam was the original USA Importer for all TA90 Series Pistols.

Definitely a pre-series 88 model and made sometime in early 1987.  It will use either pre-series 88 Tz75/TA90 Magazines or Pre-B Cz75 Magazines.
Note that there is a way to use more modern Cz75B Magazines in these Pistols, but requires a minor Frame Modification:  https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=39056.0

Also note that the Pre-Series 88 Pistols were made with a softer grade of steel, having high Nickle Content, meant to prevent corrosion.
They will take a steady diet of standard pressure Ammunition fairly well, but use +P level Ammunition only sparingly.
Note that the Barrels are very well made and the Barrel Steel is much tougher than the Frame and Slide and will withstand +P pressures easily.

One common issue with the Pre-B Cz75's and Pre-Series 88 Tanfoglio Pistols is that the Front Slide Barrel Bushings come loose.
Simply Blue Loctite the Bushing back in and all will be well.  I actually recommend it as preventative maintenance.

For many years I shot and carried a Pre-Series 88 Tz75, and it was a very good Pistol.

That just sounds so heavy on the hip.....or am I spoiled by all the plastic guns out there now?

Never found any of the Tanfoglio Pistols too heavy to carry, but that could be just me.  ;)

That said, I've also been spoiled by my polymer framed Pistols.  :)
