P-07 CGW upgrade - thoughts on EDC
« on: December 04, 2021, 04:34:44 PM »
Just installed the P series spring upgrade and short trigger reset in my P-07. Have not been out to the range yet, but it doesn't feel as substantial as the stock set up. Maybe it will grow on me?

Especially different is the lighter trigger, and the trigger almost seems to contact the frame when it breaks. (Of course I don't have a gauge...  :P)

I'm not sure I like this for an EDC... Might move it over to my P-09 and go back to the original configuration on the P-07.

I’m waiting on the Spring Kit to be delivered for my P07 along with the extended firing pin.
Where do you think the DA pull is at?

Now I would guess around 6-7 lbs. The stock trigger wasn't that bad (or I was used to it).

It compares to some of my 75s that have had spring/trigger jobs.

All a matter of taste.

The trigger on my P-07 isn’t bad after 3 years and a few thousand rounds. I did the Spring Kit on my P01 Omega and the DA is about 6lbs but there is a smoothness the kit has given it that I hoped to get with the P07 kit.

Did the CGW Defensive upgrade.  Think the polishing helped more than anything else. The shorter reset helped me on follow-up shots, but did little for improving first shot DA effectiveness.  That took about 500 shots on steel plates, from holster or low ready.  Got a lot better.

Like the P-07 for EDC.  Can not hit well with new "micro 9mm's". Just not enough grip space and they kick worse than the P-07 in 40, when shooting combat loads.

My humble opinion.

OP: I did pretty much the same. I really like how it turned out.

Okay, DA is now 9 1/2#, SA is 3 1/2#...

 :P

My suppressor-ready P-07 weighs in at DA 11+ # and SA 4 1/4#. Haven't done any work on this one yet.

I did the spring kit and extended firing pin on my P07 a few days ago. DA is about 6-7 lbs SA is about 2-1/2-3. It’s a little smoother also. It was worth it.

Yeah, I can’t figure why the DA is so high.

Next up I’ll try the Mcarbo kit on my P-09.

The trigger pulls greatly differ from P07/P09 to the next. I have done the exact same CGW mods to several different guns and there was one P09 that was still not great. Ended up selling it. I will tell you that these guns will need more than just springs to feel a noticable difference in the DA pull. Look into the Post about improving the P07/P09 trigger.

Which hammer spring did you use, the 18 lb or the 15 lb?  CGW recommends the 18 lb for carry to avoid light strikes, but many people (myself included) carry with the 15 lb spring... you just need to test it thoroughly in your gun with the ammo you carry.

On my two P-07's the trigger both came out good in the end, after polishing and upgrades, but on one of them I had to try two different sizes of CGW's DA roller before I got it right.  The DA on both is in the neighborhood of 7 lb, and I used the heavier of the two sear springs to bring the SA back up to around 3.5 lb.

I used the 15# hammer spring from the CGW spring kit. The DA wasn't bad pre-upgrade. My suppressor ready P-07, on the other hand, has an awful DA. I may just restore the hammer spring and firing pin spring and firing pin and see where that puts me...

But first out to the range and see how it works in the real world.

My P07 has the short trigger reset kit, extended firing pin and a 15 lb. hammer spring. It's been a range toy for several years and I've never had a light strike or a failure of any kind. The S/A trigger weight is 3 lb. 1 oz. but feels much lighter and the D/A weight is 6 lb. 10 oz. and feels much like the trigger on a fine revolver. After firing thousands of my reloads and many factory SD rounds I see no problem with making it a EDC.

It never occurred to me, but the DA should be measured from a half-cocked hammer, since you would not (normally) have a round chambered without also decocking the hammer.

Pulls are more on the order of 7 lbs. plus change doing it this way.  ::)

That makes more sense and is more in line with the trigger pull weight you should expect with the #15 main spring.

Fwiw, I also run the #15 main spring and have never had a light strike.
