Which Stainless clone?
« on: December 08, 2021, 05:03:44 AM »
I really would like a stainless CZ 75 but I missed that boat.
Looking for an alternative I have come across the SAR 2000, SAR K-12, SAR P8L... any others to consider.
Would a Witness with their Wonder Finish be a better choice? Thanks for your input. Ike

I really like my K12. It has a great feeling grip to it, but it's Sao remember & has some weight to it like a shadow 2. So if your looking more for the original 75B grip feel, DA/SA & weight, I would go for the 2000. I haven't seen a P8L to compare yet, but I've been looking for 1.

I like the P8S personally but the P8L is a great option. Is it just a for fun gun or specific purpose?

Just a fun gun for the range.

I think that any of the Pistols you've mentioned would be good choices.  Particularly, the SAR 2000.
I can also recommend the Tanfoglio/Witness Pistols in "Wonder" Finish, as I have a Large Frame variant in .45 ACP.
The Tanfoglio "Wonder" Finish is a Silver Gray Tennifer Finish.

I am fond of my EAA Witness.  Quite reliable and accurate.  Wonder finish has been a lot more scratch and flake resistant than other finishes.

Yeah, SAR 2000 or P8L are reasonably priced and would make for good range fun.

Thank you all for your input.  I almost pulled the trigger on the K-12 sport but the cheap in me didn't want to spend extra $150.
The P8L was about same price as the 2000 but the porting on it doesn't do anything for me.
So to cut to the chase I ended up putting a SAR 2000 on lay-away for $550 shipped and taxed.  I will pay off the balance after I get done with Christmas.
Think I'm going through the Turkish Phase of adding to my collection.
Just got home with my new SDS/Tisas Duty 1911. I'm looking forward to shooting it next my Springfield RO.
Thanks again, Ike

Well I guess my love for pawnshops and inability to pass one up paid off today. A semi local pawn shop just happen to have a SAR USA P8S stainless. Most pawnshops around here have an abundance of Glock, Smith & Wesson, and Taurus. It’s a little dirty but in really good shape so I snatched it up. Price was $541 tax and all but we agreed on $500 straight up. Whoever had it before most likely never cleaned it. It still had that copper shipping grease on the internals. I’ll give it a good deep cleaning and post some pics.

Nice! Waiting for your photos and range report.
I'm wondering how it shoots comparing with compact CZ (PCR or P01).

Looking for P8S too cause I like an idea of carrying compact steel gun. And I already have SAR 2000 Mega as my range gun, so not interested in another full-size SAR.

It wasn't as dirty as I initially thought but I couldn't help myself and ended up doing an almost complete tear down. I like to check for roll pin protrusion and potential contact points. The machining is pretty decent. I may look into having a shop port the barrel to better match the top cuts. I also don't like the style of the slide stop so I ordered one from Patriot Defense for Tanfoglio.  Haven't gotten to shoot it yet but hopefully this week.

Love my P8S. Accurate pistol with a fantastic trigger. I managed to get one new before the rush to guns and if I recall correctly, was somewhere in the 450 range.

I agree with you on the slide stop. I added the same Tanfoglio type slide stop on my SAR2000, and I think you will like it very much. It's longer and smoother under the thumb.
Here is your link for your Patriot Defense, https://patriotdefense.com/tanfoglio-witness-slide-stop-pin-18-1/
here is the one I got from Ben Stoeger https://benstoegerproshop.com/tanfoglio-eaa-ifg-witness-slide-stop-pin-18-1/
so it will be $44 for the Tanfoglio vs CZ $34, but it's in stock, as CZ has been out of stock for some time now, but ether one would work surprisingly well.
Here is the link for the CZ one https://czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/slide-stops/cz-75-shadow-sp01-slide-stop.html
