LPA Fully Adjustable Sight install on a Shadow 2
« on: December 20, 2021, 12:26:17 PM »
Hi Everyone -

I just ordered the LPA fully adjustable sights for my Shadow2, and I wont see them for a while, it seems they are coming from Italy.
I was just wondering if I will need to drill the 2mm hole in the front sight as seen in some internet youtube video (just put the sight all the way in - tap it lightly all the way in with a hammer - then drive a 2mm drill bit through the hole where the roll pin goes to put a notch in the sight base) then put in a new roll pin (i ordered a 2mm drill bit and a box of new stainless steel roll pins along with the lyman sight pusher tool)

I have no idea if any of this stuff is correct or will work, but if i can't figure it out - i can get a real gunsmith to install the sight set...

Thanks for your help,
JAG

Some front sights already have a grove in them for the pin (Dawson for example) but others do not.  There is a place to ask questions about an item on the Amazon page, that might be a way to find out if you need to drill it out.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Well when the sights show up - I will let everyone know if there is a slot cut or not.
As I mentioned I did pick up new 2mm drill bits and a box of roll pins, so if i have to drill it will be able to.
I may even take photos, do a video - perhaps launch my self to YouTube fame....

I've drilled them with no issues.

I've broken drill bits.

I finally just started drilling enough to mark the spot on both sides and then using a 3 corner file to make a nice notch for the pin.  The file is slower but breaking a drill bit tip off is a pain, too.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Well all the parts and pieces showed up, the sights just today (not bad since they came from Italy).
It seems there is no groove cut in the front sight, so I am going to have to use the 2mm drill bits I bought.

I may take pictures and type up a "How To"

Best wishes. don't put any lateral pressure on that drill bit.  They break way to easy.  First time I broke two of them.  Nice straight push do not try to go too fast.

Again best wishes.

Thanks for the advice JW - I was able to remove the factory rear with my sight pusher, I haven't tried to remove the factory front one yet, and i forgot to to take photos, so no how to will be created - oh well.

I will get back to it in the evening when i have time...

Well I got the sights installed pretty quick and easy - but the thought of taking a drill to the slide of my favorite 9mm pistol was a bit unnerving - seems to have all gone well.

Pictures to follow...

Also I highly recommend that Lyman sight pusher, that is a serious tool.
