CZ-75B SA DA/SA Conversion

Been looking for a SP-01 manual safety.  I wanted a full size steel frame 9MM DA/SA manual safety with the firing pin block and the upswept beaver tail for occasional EDC, but I wasn't sold on the extra bulk from the optics rail on the SP-01.  I already have a CZ 75B SA and have seen a few posts about converting one to DA/SA, so I figured why not?

I already had most of the parts for CGW's Pro-Package for the 75B manual safety.  I only needed to order one of their hammers and their hybrid disco.  If they have it in stock, it gets shipped out fast!

The hardest part was drilling the trigger for the over-travel and reset screws.  The extra CZ trigger I had is made from really hard steel - must be the same stuff that Captain America uses in his shield.  But with a carbide drill bit, my old Craftsman's drill press, and some slow steady pressure, I was finally able to drill and tap the trigger for the over-travel and reset screws.  I did have to remove a little metal from the trigger bow so the short end of the trigger return spring would fit behind the trigger since I didn't offset the reset screw far enough to the left.

I now have what I guess you could call a SP-01 "Lite", all the features of an SP-01 MS but without the light rail.  As usual, CGW's outstanding parts gave me an excellent crisp creep-free 8# DA/3.5# SA trigger pull.  The frame works fine with my 22LR Kadet slide in SA, but I'm getting some light strikes in DA - something I'll have to check into.

As much as I like my 9MM and 45 ACP 1911s, I'm starting to think about converting over to all CZs.  I REALLY need to get a cheaper hobby,

No need for a new hobby.  Think you are doing just fine.  Interesting project.  Still thinking of a 75 Omega myself.

Instead of drilling and tapping the trigger, why not just buy the shadow 2 trigger which comes with both pre and overtravel screws?

Curious why you come from 1911's but want to convert a SA CZ75 to DA/SA?

I understand the desire for thumb safeties/firing pin block, just curious about the DA thing.

Just stumbled on this thread and dang straight man. Props to you for making due with whats on hand. I'm toatally with you on the 1911 SA thing. I never shoot my CZs in DA unless I'm practicint for carry. Thats the only reason I haven't converted the 97 yes. I still carry it in a sholder holster occasionally.

Another thing You may want to try next time is blending the edge of the trigger shoe to your strong finger (break the edge just a tad). A true triggersnob/smith will give you props on details like that.

Replacing the CGW 13.5# blue main spring with the factory main spring solved the DA light strikes when using the Kadet 22 slide.  DA trigger pull increased slightly to 9.5# but SA remained at 3.5#.

I find the 1911 safety is easier to use than CZs, but I have some holsters that will occasionally bump the safety off during EDC.  A CZ DA/SA gives me the option to carry with the hammer in the half cock position without having to sweep the safety off for the first shot.  Also find I'm a little accurate with a CZ than a 1911.  It all boils down personal preference backed up by practice and training. 

And I did say I was thinking about converting from 1911s to all CZs.  Didn't say I was actually going to.  It always nice to have a choice.

its your choice what you want to do with your money and time.

but ever think what you will do with the time and money if you dont have any hobbies? 

what about retirement?

Also, not sure how old you are or if you figured things out, but once you sell toys, eventually you may figure out you screwed yourself or did the wrong thing at the wrong time.  Not to say you cant/wont sell them when you get older, but to me, there is always time to sell, but trying to find a specific toy later, may not be so easy.

And then comes the cost/price of what you bought when you bought them.  If you decided you screwed up and want to buy to replace it, dont be surprised you have to pay more.  Yes, you may have made some money selling them, but you may not make enough on the selling to make up the difference later on to replace it.
