What made you pick your specific SP-01 model?
« on: February 19, 2022, 03:26:46 PM »
Just curious as to what made you folks pick a certain SP-01 over all the others. Did you like certain controls better, do you compete, etc.?

I have a SP01 T and used it competitively in an IDPA season recently- it served me well.  I prefer decockers over the safety only variants as I like the simplicity of just having to draw and fire, especially in IDPA games.

I have shot MS guns in my games, and have done well, but as I mostly shoot revolvers, striker guns and decocker SA/DA guns, it minimizes muscle memory for me.

That’s my story. I know others who have long history with 1911s and prefer MS SP01s. To each their own

I like decockers so the tactical was my choice and I found a killer deal on it that didn't hurt!!

My first CZ was a decocker and it just seemed right.  Almost all my CZ's are decockers.  I just shot my SP01 Tactical in a steel challenge match today.  I had to retrain my brain and trigger finger for the 1st shot in DA.  I shoot my TSO in USPSA the most so I'm most used to starting locked and cocked.

I wish CZ would make a shadow 2 orange decocker optic ready variant.  I'd buy two.  You could run it in production and carry optics and start decocked.  Wouldn't have to manually lower the hammer at the make ready.

Cheers,
Toby

My first CZ ever was my SP-01 Tac FDE. I knew nothing about CZ handguns at the time. A local gun shop got this FDE one in and I saw it in the case and asked what it was. The owner said just hold it. Well, I went home with it that day. In the end I prefer decockers, so it all worked out.

Sp-01 Tactical:

1) Wanted a decocker, not a manual safety

2) Wanted to be able to mount a light on it

We had a "Sig" day for the ERT at the SO. However, due to my high grip I would interfere with their rearward located slide release and could not make the slide lock back on the last round fired.

Looked for a substitute and found the SP-01. The Chief Deputy would not allow a safety version on patrol and said it must be a decocker. So the tactical version was ordered.

Been with me through patrol, interdiction, ERT, and CID. Used a Safariland holster made for Glock 21 on patrol and had Blackpoint Tactical make a holster for it and a Surefire 300 with CID. Many thousands of rounds later I've never regretted my decision.

Interesting to hear that you carry an SP-01 Tac on duty. Would love to see some pictures of your duty set up with it. That is great that the department let you go with the CZ. Was it kept all stock? Did you inspire anyone else to choose a CZ?

No, it was not kept stock and all changes had to approved. The recoil spring is 14lbs and the hammer spring is 13 lbs. I currently work at a US Federal Ct. House but still reserve for the SO. In fact, I'll be using the rig below pictured with my Deputy vest and Omnivore holster this weekend on patrol. ERT photo shows a drop down Safariland holster for the G21.
