Neat, high priced for those of us used to WASR prices, what do YOU think? It is supposed to be quite a good rifle, anyone going to get one? Waaaaay out of my price range.

Here are a couple of mine. They are not the ones you have found though. They are both the original issue ones. One is altered to be semi auto only the other remains selective fire (full auto).

You wont go wrong with these.

I am interested in a carbine with a good caliber and these have popped up on the CZ site. I would definitly have to handle and check them out very carefully before buying one but they do look interesting.
May be one in my future if the selling price is right.

Can the vz59 use AK magazines?

No. Magazine specific, $40 each from CZ USA. There is apparently a website that offers 4 mags and a pouch for $40, have to look into that.

Does anyone know who is selling these in the US?  None of the distributors listed at Cz-USAs website know what I'm talking about when I call and ask.

Any more news on the CZ vz. 58? Are they even available in the US? It would be the perfect excuse for me to purchase another 7.62x39mm. I have not been able to find anything at all--excepting those in Canada.

I definitely WANT one, but they will probably be the price of a Bulgarian and Romanian AK combined. MSRP suggests a selling price around $800.00 US. It will probably be higher if the US $ doesn't rebound. I recently sold my Romanian SAR-1 with the intention of buying a milled receiver Bulgarian. Instead, I am thinking of a vz 58. That's getting into M-14 priced territory, though.

I agree the cost seems a little steep. The example of being able to get a milled Bulgarian AK along with a stamped Romanian AK is exactly right if MSRP is in the $800.00-$1000.00 US range. The Yugoslavian AKs and the Russian SAIGAS are always attractive, too. But, CZ has definitely caught my attention and I hope it happens. Plus, from what I have seen, the parts and accessories market appears to be fairly strong. I am thinking a folding stock would be really nice. After that, I just need a boxcar full of ammo!

I would get one if it was not for the price. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying a bit more for a solid rifle. I just bought a Century Golani Galil build for $900 and High Standard-InterArms Wz.88 Tantal for $600. The problem is I already have a solid system for the 7.62x39 round in my AMD-65 (a real one with the 12" barrel not the long barreled lookalikes bing sold now.) Can't justify paying that much for the system and I need to know if CZ will be providing support in the form of parts. The other problem are the proprietary magazines, regular AK mags won't work. Also the pistol grip on this one just looks wrong to me, a slight turn off. Need to think this over a bit.

I finally ordered a 58.  Maybe by the end of February it will be here.  But, I still don't have a boxcar full of ammo.  That might be more difficult.

JJ, from whom did you order?  I am having trouble finding a retailer.  If I find a deserted boxcar full of 7.62x39, I will split it with you, so long as you provide the front-end loader.

FEG:

I ordered through Second Amendment Sports here in Tucson, AZ.

http://www.2ndamendmentsports.com/

Anyhow, I did ask (more than once) to make sure it was through CZ-USA and they swear up and down that it is.  I have to admit I find it weird that I can find next to nothing on the interwebs about anyone having any for sale in the United States.  Back in December I asked at the store about the CZs just out of curiosity--I actually didn't expect them to know any more than I did.  At any rate, they say it is through CZ-USA with the full CZ-USA warranty.  We'll see what happens.  I'm excited.

On the deserted boxcar:  Sounds like a deal.  Half a boxcar works for me.  BTW, keep your eyes open for deserted boxcars of 9mm, .45ACP, and 7.62 x 54mm--just in case.

Cheers!

I finally have a more definitive answer for the question that titles this thread:

I wasn't expecting it to arrive until after next week (at the earliest).  Anyhow, it arrived very clean and the fit and finish is very nice.  I was quite impressed when I opened the box.  Most surprising to me is that it is lighter than my stamped receiver AK-47.  I know the 58 is supposed to be lighter than milled receiver AKs (as a matter of fact it feels much lighter), but I still expected it to be heavier than my Romanian AK-47.

So far all I've done is give it a quick cleaning and oiling.  Sunday should be a good day!

Sweet! I only went into SAS down there on Pima once, but it seemed like a nice place.
I would love to get my hands on a vZ58 sometime...post more pics, and range pics, if you can.
PS, shoot cheap, go to Tucson Mountain Park range.
