CZ TSO Versions
« on: March 05, 2022, 04:07:02 AM »
Hello,

I am a longtime forum reader but am a new member. For the last 4 years, I have wanted to own a Tactical Sport Orange for range use and finally can go ahead with the purchase. Over the years, I have seen models with a plastic trigger and a metal trigger (which I prefer). I have also seen different mag releases. I am not sure if there have been differences in the grips or not. Can you tell me if there have been different versions of the TSO over the years and what the differences have been, as well as which type is most current?  Thanks a lot.

I'm not an expert on the matter, but as far as I can tell the first versions:

'Squared' trigger guard interior, older Ambi manual safety with low shelf, grips with tapered-in top sections, older non-paddle extended magazine release ('Ace Frehley Boot')

Later/current versions:

'Rounded' trigger guard interior more like the regular SP01's and 75B's, newer 'Shadow 2 style' thumb safety with higher shelf (flat on other side), grips with slightly different cut (again more like the Shadow 2's), magazine release with orange pad adjustable for angle, different profile to slide lock lever.

I don't know when they switched to aluminum triggers.  Also, I think there may have been some 'transitional' models in-between that had some of the feature changes like the trigger guard before the others.  But these are the most apparent ones, and I think they are all interchangeable.

Thank you very much for that explanation. Do you think the quality has been consistent?

From everything I can gather, yeah completely.  Unless something in overall QC has changed, which I just haven't heard of.

Two things for me which are particularly better in newer models are the magazine release and the thumb safety, both of which I have on my Orange which is an earlier model.  In fact, years back I had a TS 'Blue' which was essentially the same model but without the thumb rest/optic plate cutout and older grip checkering, and I ended up using a Shadow 2 extended safety before they started coming stock on the newer models, because it positioned the thumb hight better and didn't interfere on the other side like the older ones.  Was good to see that they ended up doing the same eventually.

That is good to hear. I wonder why they wrote Orange on the grip from the new model. I think it is “blazingly” obvious  :)

Older variations, I believe, had an issue with the magwell not smoothly transitioning. Folks were "blending" them to smooth the transition.  Bought mine last year and it's perfect, too that was revised for sure.

Found this as well. https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=100163.0. Was looking for a magwell blending picture. Is on post 2.
