I recently replaced the HBI trigger in my P-10F with the trigger/disco kit from Apex. I really like the rolling break of the Apex, as opposed to the sharp "snap!" of the HBI (always felt like I was using a staple gun). The problem is, after my first extended range session (250 rounds or so), I ended up with a blood blister on my trigger finger. Apparently the skin was getting pinched hard between the trigger and the trigger guard.
I'll just get this out of the way now: There is nothing unusually large, small, fat, skinny or delicate about my hands/fingers.
I experienced some discomfort from shooting the HBI trigger, but nothing like this. I suspect that this is because the HBI is shorter than the Apex, leaving more room between the trigger guard and the bottom of the trigger (which is also rounded a little, as opposed to the "fangs" of the Apex). The skin of my finger could still get pulled into that gap, but not hard enough to cause a blister (let alone a blood blister).
So, now I'm wondering if I should try modifying the Apex to be more like the HBI. I hate to send it back, seeing how much I like it in all other respects. Maybe I'll start by removing the "fangs" and rounding off the bottom a little bit. If that doesn't work, I could start making the trigger progressively shorter.
My question is, does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Am I on the right track, or barking up the wrong tree?
On a related note, why does this problem exist at all? If I just operate the trigger and cycle the slide by hand (in dryfire), I can't figure out what forces are at work that would cause this.
Thanks in advance for your help (or sympathy)!
