Happy with my new purchase
« on: March 12, 2022, 05:11:09 PM »
I decided to create new thread (the beginning is here https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=118269.msg920837#msg920837)
So instead of P-01/P-07 I purchase two strikers: Canik TP9DA and SC Elite.

Yesterday I had chance to test them on the range. Very happy with triggers out of the box - TP9DA has some unusual travel for single action, so it will take some time to get used to, but SC Elite rocks! The subcompact has more recoil, but it is manageable.

I also ordered four Promag TP9 18 round mags. All Promag magazines had issues with lock on the last round, but I found solution how to fix it. There're known issues with Promag magazine springs - they are weak. So I doubled two of them (taking springs from another two). And put two Beretta 92 +10% springs into empty mags. Now it works!

Check out Galloway Precision for spring and trigger upgrades. They make a really good striker great!

Congratulations on your new Canik TP9DA and SC Elite and may they serve you well!  8)   :)

I have a predecessor to your Canik TP9DA, the Canik TP9V1, and it's my favorite CCW, amongst the others in my Carry Rotation.
Have had it now for about six years and it's been very very accurate, very reliable, and quite durable considering the use I've put it through.
No problems at all yet.  It's also a crowd pleaser at my clubs range. Anyone who's shot it, has liked it.
Your Canik SC Elite is of some interest to my as a Summer Carry Pistol, and I may yet buy one.

Btw, the original Canik TP9 magazines are made by Mec-Gar and I also bought 5 spare Factory Magazines for it.
I don't do ProMag Magazines unless I can't avoid it.

Congrats. I'm thinking hard about buying a Rival. I briefly owned an SFX Elite, it was nice but I stuck with the P10 at the time.

Canik TP9V1 with spare Magazine

Does your TP9V1 have Warren sights? It's a bit unusual for me - and it has some pros and cons. The round shape of rear sight ideally matches with 4" target at 7 yards distance, but front sight is a little bigger than I expected. So, I can easily put all rounds inside 4" target, but if you need bullseye accuracy - it's challenging.

I didn't expect to buy SC Elite, but my wife wanted something smaller :) And in terms of price - it was great decision! SC Elite has very nice trigger out of the box, "glow in the dark" front sight and slot for mounting micro red dot.  What is great you can mount red-dot without removing rear sight. So this gun has a lot of potential. I won't call it "subcompact" it's between traditional subcompact and compact. And it has maximum possible distance between front and rear sights which is good for accuracy. The only thing which needs training - it has no safety besides trigger safety, so I'd potentially carry it in future, but now stick to decocker gun. BTW, it takes 18 round mags too :) in addition to factory 12/15 round mags.

I know that ProMag mags suck, I will use them solely for range shooting to preserve original mags for home defense/carry scenarios.

You are most Welcome!  :)

Does your TP9V1 have Warren sights?

No, the early TP9 series Pistols came with copies of the original Walther P99 AS sights, which I like.
I do have a Hi-Viz Fiber Optic Front Sight that will fit, but I have yet to bother to install it.
