vz. 54 Sniper rifle
« on: April 23, 2022, 02:38:13 AM »
Thanks to another forum member, I had the chance to shoot a few rounds out of this relatively hard to find rifle. Nice trigger, satisfying felt recoil, bright optics and in outstanding condition. Not sure if it’s the originally paired optic. We did not make any adjustments to the dials but just adjusted the aiming point as we were only casually firing it for the first time. This “odstrelovaci puska vz. 54” was produced in small quantities between 1954-1957 before it was replaced by the Dragunov. This was marked 1957. It uses the Mosin-Nagant model 1891/30 action with external differences. Forgotten Weapons has a short video on it.

This was at a small range in the north-west part of the country towards the German border.

Adjusted the aiming point to 7 o’clock while using the scope.

A few of the other firearms brought out for plinking.

Italian Breda made Garand in 7.62x51 for the Dutch.

Pleasant weather and beautiful view from the back of this small, remote range.

Wow I’m jealous. Great collection of guns for a range day. Love the range even more. We’re already getting hot and starting fire season so no green for a longtime.

Thanks for those photos PsyOps  !

The Vz54 is indeed a very interesting rifle demonstrating the Czech Army navigating the constraints of being a Warsaw Park member while retaining it's national touch and a degree of independence toward Moscow . Sadly when the CSLA adopted the SVD-63 Dragunov, many Vz 54 were modified with an improved stock and issued to the Police as Vz54/91 .  Without a doubt it gave the Vz54 a new breath of life a better rifle but it also meant few of the original 5,000 Vz54 survived in their original configuration, making it a very hard piece to add to an CSLA guns collection.
