CZ 85 ROMEO 1 Anyone use this?
« on: August 11, 2022, 11:17:35 AM »
Hey all.  My final upgrade on my PreB 85 project is putting on a red dot.  I got the Romeo 1 mounts and a 6MOA Red dot.  Mounts went in great, but I noticed a hairline crack in the optics after completion.  I figured I would see how it would shoot and decide whether or not to scrap the whole deal or get a replacement.  After the first round, the hairline crack became a full blown fracture.  I could still see the red dot, but could not sight in to even hit the target.  Granted this might be due to the cracked lense and the range I went to only allows a small target.  Since I can’t return the mounts, I decided to order a replacement red dot.  Tightened it tighter to 28 torque pound (read this on YouTube) and no cracks so far.  I did get a laser bore sight and it still looks to be high even after adjusting it to go as low as possible.  Heading out to a different range tonight that allows full size targets and will report back.  Just wondering if any user have had issues with Romeo 1 and what other alternatives there are.  Thanks all.

Don't know who makes the Romeo 1.  No idea what it cost or how durable it is said to be.

I can say that the RMR (made by Trijicon) and the Holoson red dots are supposed to be very durable.  I've seen a video (it's on you tube) of a guy dropping the pistol so that it hits the concrete on the Holoson red dot.  The lens cracked.  He shot the pistol, it was still zeroed and he put a thousand rounds through it before once again dropping on the Holoson on the cement again.  That further cracked the lens.  He shot it and it was still zeroed, so he shot another thousand rounds through it and dropped it a third time so that the already damaged red dot hit on the cement again.  It was still zeroed.

You can find the Holosons on sale for a little under $300 sometimes.  The RMRs are a couple hundred dollars more expensive.

Got pics of the Pre CZ85?  I think the CZ85's are the sharpest looking full size CZ75 models/types.  I like the ambidextrous controls so well I've converted a couple of CZ75's to have/use similar safeties/slide release levers.  Oh, and put spur hammers on them, too.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Thanks for your reply.  The Romeo 1 is a Sig Product which I thought would be top quality.  I did shoot it last night at an indoor range that allowed full size targets and I at least hit the target, but it kept shooting consistently low.  When using the bore sight I thought it would shoot high, so I am not ruling out operator error, I just couldn’t get the needle to move so to speak.  I even tried the opposite way adjustment just to make sure I wasn’t misunderstanding.  I’m doing some research, some are suggesting getting a shim.  I’ll post pictures soon, I’m a little new to the forum and will also need research how to post pictures.  The 85 looks awesome.  I had it refinished and installed a SAO trigger on it.  Thanks.

Here’s the before pic.  I was planning on posting in a separate thread all the modernizing I’ve done to this.  The only issue with the older CZ is the fixed front sight.  Really want modern night sights, just don’t want to have it milled.  There just aren’t great options without milling and that is why I’m trying the red dot.  A fail so far.

Mine is an older one like that.

That's what many do, have the slide milled for the newer sights.

That sight is installed like a 1911 front sight.  The post on the bottom of the sight sticks down through the slide but is long enough to past through the top of the barrel bushing and hold it in place in the slide.

I need to shoot mine more.  I keep messing with other brands of pistols looking for something that will shoot like my CZs.  No luck, so far.  But it keeps me from shooting CZs more often.

We’ll, can’t get the Romeo 1 to work, just keeps shooting low, tried shims.  Back to the drawing board.  Anyone else have any suggestions.

The Romeo 1 is a Sig product that they've largely discontinued in favor of the Romeo 1 Pro.  The Romeo 1 had a really short battery life when we tested it for potential as a duty optic.  The Romeo 1 Pro has been better.  I have never seen a successful CZ mount of an optic without milling.

I have had a Romeo 1 on my nightstand SP-01 tactical. It was my first red dot, bought it as it was cheap and mounted with a sig mount that replaced the rear sight.  I do not carry this pistol but shoot it frequently (range time every 6 weeks or so). Have had it for about 2 years, replace battery yearly and so far no issues zeroing it, has held zero since initial sighting.  That said, my carry pistols have holosun optics.

I have 2 that use a dovetail mount: 75, Phantom and 97. These were my test guns just to try out this new fangle invention. Never any issues except operator error. Great low cost option to keep guns from becoming safe queens. Pictures are here so you can see them:  https://czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=119512.msg928958#msg928958
