Milling Front Sight on CZ 85
« on: August 13, 2022, 07:57:52 PM »
Hi guys.  Reading really good things about CGW.  I have an older CZ 85 pre B and I was thinking of putting night sights on it.  Can you give me an idea how much the cost of labor for milling the frame to accommodate a dovetail front sight would be and installing the sights?  Thanks.

Best way to know the current price would be to go to the CGW website and use the listed phone number to give them a call.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Gotcha, I was thinking CGW monitored this section and responded directly.  Thanks.

You're right.  I've seen responses before from them.

I can also tell you that any time I've had dealings with them (phone - once, or just orders for parts) the responses are pretty quick.  I don't think anyone ships faster.  Most of the time when I order I'll get an e-mail the next day that the parts are on their way to me.  Mostly why I order from them if the parts I need are in stock.

Good luck.  Those old CZ85's are great.

No, thanks for asking.  I went to their website and they do have a price for sight install, but I’m 1000 % sure that is only if slide already has dovetail to accommodate.  It’s on my to do list and I’ll update once I know.  Are you thinking of doing something similar?  The older CZ sight options are slim pickings without milling.

Yes but will probably let my local machinist buddy do it.

When I replaced the damaged front sight on my Pre B CZ85 I ended up using a 1911 front sight (aftermarket 1911) and had to file the tenon on the corners to round it off to fit the round hole in the slide/barrel bushing of the Pre B pistol.  Then I had to modify a 1911 front sight staking tool to get it to work.

Not as easy as sending it off for slide milling, but sort of fun to do on my own.

My one concern on the milling is that I just had it refinished and am terrified of marking up the new finish.  I’d be too scared to try it on my own.  I looked at a red dot to circumvent the need for night sights, but had a plethora of issues with with the pictures Sig.  I’m going to play with options using existing sights, but my older eyes really struggle with the nubs on the front.  Thanks for the suggestions.

Do you mind if I asked how much it was?  Did you send them the whole pistol or just the slide?  Thanks.
