P-07 CGW Hammer is Sharp - File?
« on: September 26, 2022, 03:47:39 PM »
Hi Team CZ,
I have fully Cajunized my P-07, plus I had it milled for an optic by Wager Machine, and it is now one of my favorite guns, maybe second after my Shadow 2. I’m in NJ where we only got legal CCW this summer and I plan to carry my P-07 once my permit is approved.  I just got a kydex holster for it and the problem I noticed is that the outside edge of the CGW hammer is very sharp and it is uncomfortable when it pokes into my skin.  Does anyone know if I could file the left side edge of the hammer down just a touch to reduce the sharpness without adversely affecting the operation of the pistol?
Thanks!

Before modifying the hammer, maybe consider small reversible modifications to the holster or carry set up. I had a similar problem with a P01 Omega+CGW hammer and I just used a thin (~1/8" thickness) square of leather affixed to the back of the kydex holster (via velcro) that extended over where the hammer on skin hot spot was.  The leather was thick enough to hold shape for re-hostering but really helped with comfort. It also served as a sweat guard for the summer.  I run a similar set up with my SP01 carry guns now.  Just something else to consider.

Thanks for the suggestion my friend.  I’m new to carry so I’m pretty early on the learning curve.  The other pistols I qualified with don’t have this problem (S&W CS9 with bobbed hammer and S&W M&P 2.0 Compact with no hammer).  I’m still curious if I can smooth out the hammer, but it’s good to have other options too.

I doubt smoothing the hammer would affect function.

I have always thought that the edges of the CGW hammer was a little sharp as well. There is a member (Clusterfrack) over on Pistol Forum that is a big P07 fan and he shared his hammer dehorning job. Look at post #1012. What he ended up with looks about perfect to me.

I agree, but with any metal removal you'd be breaking through the bluing. and proabably see some corrosion start.
The correct holster or a modified holster is a much better idea.

It won't affect function at all. After you file it, sand it smooth and hit those areas with some polish on a dremel. Wipe it with oil when you clean the pistol and rust won't be an issue. I bobbed a CGW hammer for my Rami and it has functioned just fine. That removed a lot more material than simple dehorning.

Cold blueing the area that you cut is also an option. I have used it a few times to fix my mistakes on sights.
Will work for CZ pics! (including but not limited to all CZ clones)

I carry my P07 cocked and locked so the hammer is farther back and it bites into my waist roll of excess skin/fat.

So I added a chunk of leather to it.  Attached it to the inside/back (where it contacts my skin) of the holster with the same kind of screws used to attach the belt clip to the other side of the holster.  A couple of the holes where already in the holster at the top so you could switch it to left hand use by moving the clip.  No problem drilling leather or kydex to make more screw places just be sure it's not where the pistol would rub the nut on the inside.  Not a regular nut, but one of those flattened/rounded ones like those used to attach the belt clip.  You can buy them on ebay (or sure) and most likely other places as well.

This was new.  The leather is now darkened and curled from years of wear but does not affect pulling the pistol from the holster.

Oh, got a bag of scrap leather pieces (done this for other holsters, too) from Hobby Lobby.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
