Red dot dovetail round count

How long have they held up for you?

Eyes getting older and been considering a red dot. Optometrist recommended it actually.

For those using dovetail mounts how many rounds have you put down range without failure?

Been looking into them myself, and after calling a CZ gunsmith They no longer sell dovetails due to the hammering it causes on the dovetail and slide groove causing the zero to change overtime, and potential to crack the mount.
they don’t recommend them due to torque it puts on the slide dovetail eventual moving of the RDS off zero as a result, plus some of the mounts have been known to break over time.
He said eventually it will happen, and I didn’t think to ask about an estimate of rounds, from their experience, before it happens.

He did say if i couldn’t find someone with a RDS to test (recommending doing so before I think about milling the slide) it would be okay temporarily just to see if I liked the RDS then have it milled of I do.

I’m running 3 dovetail mounts from 2 manufactures. Not crazy round counts but no failures. Had 2 mounting screws need more lock tight and one the battery cover flew off (yeah my bad, but would have suck if I wasn’t at the range). Try the RDS out, you’ll become a believer after 100 rnds. Now have 2 slide mounted RDS for serious stuff. Might mill the others, might not: don’t fix if it isn’t broke.

What mounts and RDS are you running?

I’ve been leaning towards the holosun 507K x2 due to small size and the 32moa circle.

I’m Undecided on a mount yet.

Running 2 EGWs with vortex venoms on a 97 (low round count) and a 75b. Have a Springer Precision on a Phantom with a Holosun 507. Just started using a 507k2 (75 rnds but just learning the new Canik SPX Pro) and if I had the option I’d go with the bigger view. Also have a 407 on a target 22. The 2 moa dot is nice for precise shooting but like the 32 moa circle for fast pickup. I’m using a 6moa dot for my CCW Sig and love it.
