Ever seen a paper cartridge?
« on: October 24, 2022, 06:37:15 AM »
Talk about old school...
Now, before we delve off into something that was first produced LONG before there WAS a Czechoslovakia for CZ-UB to be born in, there WAS two CZs fired. She tried out the mag extension in her P-10M, which I wrote up in the Poly Pistol Subforum. And, I got my P-10S back from the shop, (magazine release return spring broke, never ever heard of that ever anywhere else, weird), which ran like a champ for about 150 rounds.
But, I was there to try something older.
A LOT older.
Paper cartridges in my stainless 1858. Yeah, THAT old!

That photo is true juxtaposition, too.  8)

Placed in an empty 38 shotshell box - I have NO idea how to transport them otherwise, too fragile. Kit is from Guns of the West, in case you're interested.

The 1858 loading cutout is wide enough to handle the paper cartridge, unlike the 1960 I tried them on before.

11 yards - you can JUST see the missing sixth shot top of the picture off a bit to the left. 25 grains of Olde Eynsford 3F, REAL black powder that is really hard to find since they shut down the plant. Something about the place blowing up all the time, or some rot like that.

Head shots at 11 yards - missed one right over the top.

All in all they worked fine and I need to explore different paper. Da Boy was working next to me on his .54 caliber Kit Carson, and for some reason the nice couple just downwind of us suddenly found it necessary to leave..no idea why. Smelled like...victory, to me.
I did mention we shot two CZs, right?  ;D

That's cool, but you forgot to tell us anything about the gun.

The cartridge loading kit is from Guns of the West. https://gunsoftheweststore.com/

My brother has one of the stainless Ruger BP revolvers they made 30 years ago, which I have fired.

Ask me about used Dillon reloading equipment.

Whoops, my bad.  8) Sidearm is an Uberti stainless steel Remington 1858 clone, a revolver I have lusted for many years. The ONLY BP revolver I wanted more than this one is a stainless 8 inch Ruger Old Army - but I don't have a spare $1,000. It is a FINE sidearm! Ricky likes it, too.

Very Nice Uberti 1858 Remington Revolver you have there and glad it works well for you!  8)  :)
I've always liked the 1858 Remington design over the open top Colts of that era.

Beautiful gun.  Might have to give a shout this winter and see it in person.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

Closest thing for me would be a 16 inch naval gun.

I have seen those - I rearmed the New Jersey in 1988. Those projos come TWO to a pallet for the 16" 50 Cal, 2600 pounds with 1900 pound explosive weight, and all those cloth bags of powder. There is something that is indescribable about seeing a battlewagon at sea, just a ship that says I am here to destroy anything in my way.
