Silencer recommendation?
« on: November 03, 2022, 07:22:43 AM »
I'm buying my first ever silencer to go with a Vz.58 Pistol (the 11.5" version).  I'm working through the Trust paperwork.

I have removed the flash hider.  It unscrews fairly easily.

I read enough about this to be dangerous.  I know from some other posts that I want it to index to the muzzle, not the front sight base.  As everyone here knows, it has a 14x1mm RH mount.  I believe the KNS adapter fixes both, so I ordered it.

So what else?  I know I need the silencer itself and I'm open to recommendations.  I'd love something that can be used for my Vz.58 as well as any "regular" .308 rifle in the future.  Any other pieces I would need?

The 12.5" version?  Not aware of an 11.5 one...

W/ .308 suppressors, you need your barrel threading to be perfectly concentric and then also need to be aware of backflow/over-pressuring the gas piston.  AFAIK, there isn't an xtra power spring set or adjustable piston for the Vz58, so you're controlling/adjusting through your suppressor and ammo primarily.  A half decade ago, someone in canada did sell a rubber recoil buffer specific to this platform, but don't think they're still around, given increasingly infringing gun laws up there.

Garand Thumb had a vid recently w/ a suppressed shorty that looked to have had a Griffin Suppressor on it, but might have been something else.

For folks less concerned about barrel threading concentricity, the Wolverine PBS-1 has a little more clearance as should any other AK-specific models.

There are threads here from other folks suppressor trials/solutions if you search, including folks drilling gas blocks for adjustment screws, etc., DIY...

I've been reading non-stop since I posted that and even asked a couple of the dealers who sell Vz.58's.  Unsurprisingly enough, CzechPoint never got back to me.

While it cost a pretty penny, I ordered the OSS HX-QD 762 Ti. It was made for guns that don't have adjustable gas blocks.

It comes with a muzzle brake but you can also separately order a flash hider to mount it.

For the Vz threads, I ordered both the KNS adapter and the CNC Warrior one.  I'll see which one is best.

Finally, I ordered a bore alignment rod to verify.

It'll be a while before I get the silencer and can test everything, but by most accounts, this was the combo to get.  When I get it all and is tested, I'll update this thread for posterity.

I bought it slightly used off Gunbroker so I didn't measure it exactly, but it's definitely a CzechPoint model.  This says 11.9", so we're both wrong??  Lol

Yes, that's the one.  Had it in my mind at 12.5", not 12...

And yes, personally, I would lean towards a flow-through or low back-pressure can.

If you're going to be putting full caliber rounds through it, then you do want a full size can.  For intermediate 7.62x39, you could probably get away w/ a compact or K can made for .308.  Don't know if such exists, just noting that you're going to be at or beyond the length of a 16" barreled gun w/ a muzzle device w/ this can.

I have the DeadAir Sandman K and it works well. I don’t notice any significant back pressure. It is not hearing comfortable for supersonic centerfire rifle rounds, but if you forget your ear pro it doesn’t make your ears ring. For subsonic 7.62x39 such as the Brown Bear from Kvar it is pretty quite. A buddy has the S model and that is noticeably quieter. I really like the mounting method, the Keymo mounts are just easy and rock solid.
