VZ58 SBR with some cool components
« on: November 09, 2022, 09:47:30 AM »
New to this forum, on many other gun forums though. Just wanted to share a VZ08 build I’ve been working on for a bit. Realized some of the components might be helpful to folks. Barrel chopped to 11.5” and threaded M15x1, Dead Air flash hider, cut front sight welded to gas block, left side charging handle, Stormwerkz buttstock adapter, Jmac triangle folder, Czech Small Arms side rail, RS Regulate AK-314MS low mount (fits perfect, only 0.03” taller than the out of stock VZ version), standard RS upper mount and Sig Romeo. The AK side mount is RS’s Yugo rear biased mount, but again, it works well and sits very low. Thanks for perusing!

Shoots well. I don’t have other VZ58’s to compare it to, but its plenty accurate for its purpose (1-2” groups with the red dot at 50 yards, and can smack plates fine at 100-200 yards), reasonable recoil, and the Jmac stock and Stormwerkz adapter put the stock at the correct height for an optic and cheek weld. The triangle stock has a pretty aggressive aluminum ribbing against your shoulder, so not the most comfortable, but not a big deal with 7.62x39. Trigger is standard and is alright, smooth but doesn’t really have a wall or good ability to stage it.

Nice build!  I like the JMAC stock - can you get it low enough to run the irons?

The trigger is the biggest downside to the 58 - spongy and slow on follow ups.

You can depending on how you mount it. If you set the stock lower on the mount, and then set the mount lower on the 1913 rail you could absolutely use the irons, but it would look as aesthetically pleasing in my eyes. Stormwerkz has other mounting angles I believe, that may be able to put it closer to the OEM stock angle.

The key advantage of the JMAC folder design is the capability to move the stock up and down in the mount.  With the SIG 1913, you have to move the mount and stock itself and this does not always work well.

Who did the GB Combo work?

Lucky man getting the super rare RS Regulate mount - I think they make 10 of them every 5 years.

Apologies for the late reply. I did the gas block work and barrel chop and threading. Actually turned out fairly good, even just using a wire welder.

So, part of the reason I wanted to make this post was to let people know that other RS Regulate mounts other than the actual VZ one will work well and still sit low. The one I am using is their Yugo rear biased.

Well, that’s interesting that the RS Regulate Yugo mount fits the CSA Vz58 side rail. The standard RS Regulate AK mount definitely does not fit the CSA side rail. You would think that RS Regulate would mention that on their website, especially since their mounts for the Vz58 are in such short supply.

Yeah, I took a gamble and it worked fine. It has a little screw in stop that must be for a Yugo that I unscrewed and took out, but yeah, it slides on fine, very nice tight fit. I just have the standard side rail from Czech Small Arms, the newer skeletonized one.

Assuming the OP isn't selling services, I think ForcedMarch in the stickies used to offer a similar gas block conversion welding service.

Hello.  Nice build, thanks for sharing!
How well does the action cycle with the can on while using subsonic ammunition?  Is this 7.62x39?

The post above is opinion, and I am probably totally wrong, so please pardon me if I offend anyone in any way. I am speaking only for myself and just sharing my thoughts, not trying to start an argument with anyone, and if you disagree with anything I have said, I concede your correct.

It cycles subsonic Brown Bear from Kvar about 70% of the time with a suppressor.  Yes, 7.62.
