Time to rethink
« on: November 19, 2022, 08:41:08 PM »
I have always thought of myself as having a favoritism tword semiautomatic pistols. I was rearranging the safe and had laid out all of my pistols and noticed something. If you count the naa mini revolver, I've more revolvers than  semiautomatics. I have always liked a nice revolver, but have preferred a non wheel gun. I can't let this situation go on. I'll have to buy another cz. Maybe a compact or who knows. But another cz.

It is hard to get rid of a gun that shoots like a bullseye pistol. I have a old ruger security six 357 mag that I can put six rounds inside a 1 inch bull at 50 yards. It shoots too good to let go.

I’m a huge fan of revolvers, shooting several in my action shooting games.

My most recent wheelgun acquisition is a S&W 21-4, 44 spl.  Think of a model 10 on steroids for those unfamiliar.

Am also currently slicking up the action on my WC GP100.  Should be finished with it early next week when some replacement springs arrive in the mail.

So right.

I have not shot my M29 or M586 in years.  But I'm not getting rid of them.

But I do own way more semi autos than revolvers and carry the semi-autos these days.  At least with the P07 I'm not giving up much in the accuracy department.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I'm about 60/40 semi's/revolvers. Revolvers are what I started with and there's no way they'll ever go away. There's nothing like shooting wadcutters through a 6" Mdl. 14. That always makes me giggle like a little girl.

A couple of co-workers and I have started designating our stress-reduction lunches at the range, in order to keep any firearms from being neglected. Like .22 Tuesday, 5.56 Friday and, of course, Wheel Gun Wednesday.

And yes, you are derelict in your CZ commitment if you don't have a compact.
No matter where you're going, there you are.

I have a token revolver, just for my own education.  I bought a GP-100 and worked over the innards, maybe 8 years ago.  It is a fine firearm, but the grip shape just isn't comfortable to me and I can't force myself to put Sugru on such a nice firearm!!  I keep it just to show new shooters what a revolver is like, and I let them shoot it, but they all quickly go back to the semi-autos.

I may have to get it out of the safe and add some oil and wipe it down this week.   :)

Had to check, oddly enough I found myself with a couple more autos than revolvers. If I would have guessed, I would have said there were more revolvers and been wrong.

I have more semi-autos than revolvers, but I know the reason and it has nothing to do with preference. Quality revolvers, the older S&Ws and Colts are  just too expensive for me over the past decade or so. Otherwise I can think of several more I would own, and I can easily imagine different purchases I should have made in the past.

Ah, what you need to do is find the grail gun, the CZ 38 revolver. They made one back in the 70s... 8)

Took my S&W M15 out for a spin classifying SS today for IDPA.  Hadn’t shot it in years, so was fun to get reacquainted with this fun gun again.

I like revolvers. Perhaps it's because they are the handguns I started out with beginning in 1968, always worked, and are simple in operation. S&Ws, Rugers, and one lone Colt. All are at least over fifty years old.

If I were to get another revolver, it would be a S&W made no later than the 70s. Those seem to me to be the cream of the crop as S&W went into the semi-automatics and I found that S&W revolvers began to suffer in quality. I might be wrong as it's subjective.

It's also cultural. When I was growing up, westerns and old film noir detective movies featured revolvers. The only time I saw an automatic was in war movies and tv shows about WW2 And they were always Colts unless it was a Nazi with a Luger or small Walther.

As to what I would look for in revolvers today are N-frame model 27 or 28 357, a K-frame 14 or 66, and a J-frame Model 49 Bodyguard as long as it was Pre-1980 vintage and preferably pre-1975. Those guns would tempt me and I might fall prey to the temptation.

I was never a Colt fan, but  pre-1960s models were also better made then too.

You must remember that in those golden years of revolvers, each revolver was fitted and checked out by a gunsmith. Today, guns are assembled for the most part and it's rare for a gunsmith to handle a gun before you get it.

I'm a big fan of the Old Model Rugers before the transfer bars, and just yesterday took an Old Model Super Blackhawk in .45 LC out to play. It was wonderful.https://i.imgur.com/j7Bf4gP.jpg[/img]]

Now, 100% of the time, I carry semi-automatics with the occasional S&W Bodyguard slipped into a jacket pocket if I'm in troubled areas. Having my hand on that Bodyguard in my pocket is my security blanket.  But I still have a 9mm or 45 acp on me too.

Different guns for different occasions. A big part of having and using firearms is the discovery of what you like, don't like, and are indifferent to. It's also a changing landscape where, if you remain open, you'll realize a gun you once didn't like is now one of your favorites. So far, Glocks are repugnant to me and maybe if I live to 100 I might change my mind. ;D
