Discovered CZs after using Makarovs in 9x18. Bought 2 CZ82s in 2004, then 3 CZ52s (which I enjoy shooting), a CZ75B, and CZ97.

Now I'm looking to get rid of a FEG Hi-Power clone and get another CZ 9mm in a compact version though I haven't shot anything in a CZ 9mm except my 75b so still undecided about which model to get.

I've found the CZs to be very well-made, reliable, and have much better ergonomics than a 1911 for me. They seem to be a more natural pointing and shooting handgun not requiring after-the-sale tinkering to work well.

I am an old school guy beginning with my first handgun purchase in 1969 with a Ruger Super Single-Six which I still use regularly and still have the box and papers. As I said, I'm old.

Being old, I grew up with revolvers, particularly S&Ws, and the CZs were the first automatics that I owned that gave me satisfaction in shooting (along with Makarovs).

I still carry CZs with the occasional backup S&W Bodyguard from 1966 in my outer coat pocket. Old habits die hard.

Best wishes to all for a happy Thanksgiving and lots of good food, with good family and friends to share that food with.

You still have a 1969 Ruger Super Single-Six?!?

For your information, the man that my wife works for had one that he bought for $30 when he was in junior college (i.e. a long time ago!).  He brought it to the range with me, but was having problems getting the cartridges in and out of it.  I asked him when the last time was that he had cleaned it.

It turned out that he never had!  So....I offered to clean it for him.

While doing a safety check on it, I found that Ruger had an offer to install a hammer block in their old revolvers.
I got him to do the paperwork to send it in for the modification.  They responded back that they didn't have any
parts to update a revolver that old, so they offered him a choice of TWO (2) *NEW* revolvers!!

He chose a stainless one and is quite happy with it.

As a result though of my offer, he has sent me a number of guns to clean:  an old 25 ACP FIE Titan, a 12 gauge Chinese-made pump shotgun and both of his son's Remington shotguns, the older of which looked like it had never been cleaned!

Working on/cleaning other people's guns helps my education toward becoming a gunsmith in retirement, which is only a few years away.

I still have it. It still looks excellent and works great. Never a failure. I did take off the original grips about 20 years ago (of course I still have them in the safe) for these rubber grips. I have big ham mitts, even as a kid, so they usually go on all my handguns. I also have a Ruger Old Model Blackhawk in 45 LC around from the same time period.

I remember when Ruger wanted to change out the hammer system but I refused on both Rugers. I do carry on an empty chamber when in the field.

The 22. mag cylinder has been fired less than 10 times. As a kid, .22 mag ammo was considerably higher so I stuck with .22 lr in the 50 rd small boxes at about .5-2 cents a round at most. I think I still have that .22 mag ammo that was left over somewhere in the storeroom.

This gun has had 3000+ rounds (a low estimate), was always cleaned after each firing, and has served me well. That Ruger and a Model 39 Marlin (still have it too) were great travel companions for a kid.
