Cerakote CZ SH2 any substantial difference?
« on: December 02, 2022, 10:48:02 AM »
Fellow CZ enthusiasts,

I have a black and blue CZ Shadow 2 and was wondering if there was a beneficial difference between having a Cerakote on my gun or not. I mainly use the gun for IPSC competition shooting. So my questions are as follows:

1. Does it have benefits?
2. Does it have drawbacks?
3. Is it better than the original coating?

Thanks in advance! ;D

Well it already has a Nitride coating. I think the only thing cerakote would do is allow you to add a custom look to it.

Neither is permanent. Cerakote can wear off just like all other finishes. It can also chip if it gets hit hard enough. I am having a slide milled and opted for Nitride finish instead of Cerakote since it seems to handle holster wear a little better but I also just had a complete CZ 75B Cerakoted. So it's really a matter of preference.

Thank you Fyrfyter,

I assume it's a kydex holster? The most important thing for me is to have the best coating against wear and tear during competition. Given your info, the current coating is therefore sufficient enough.

Thanks!

Well the best most durable coating is to have it hard chromed.  That would hold up the best long term.  I've pondered having my comp guns hard chromed but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.  It does look very nice though!

Cheers,
Toby

I saw some pictures from CGW of a custom SH2 which had a hard chrome finish. It looked really great!  That's a good addition, worth considering!

Thanks!
