Winter Build
« on: December 12, 2022, 12:51:01 AM »
I'm going to do a winter build based on the cz 457. I've purchased the cz 457 Varmint with a 20.5" barrel, a KRG Bravo chassis, area 419 30 moa scope mount, Athlon Helos 8-34 x 56 scope and arca rail for the Bravo chassis. Once assembled I'll see how the Varmint barrel shoots and probably end up with the IBI 22" barrel. For sure I'll be installing a Timney trigger I'd like to get it down to  9 ounces.

How much will it weigh?  Curious because I know my old Winchester M52B is pretty heavy (but shoots good).

What are you going to do with it?  Paper holer or small game hunt?

Seven ounce trigger?  Holy cow.  I though the 1 lb 7 oz. trigger on my Tactical Sport .40 was kind of scary.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I shoot 3 bench rest matches every month. Durning the winter months only when the weather is reasonably decent. Shooting season officially starts March through November. The distances are 50, 100, 150 and 200 yards. Target sizes are 1” at 50 yds, 2” at 100 yds, 3” ar 150 yds and 4” at 200 yds. The match is timed you have 2 minutes for 10 shots at each distance hopefully each shot is a hit. The 50 and 100 yd I usually clean but the 150 and 200 is a little tougher because of the wind. For a match tie breaker we have a KYL set at 75 yds.

I built out a 455 VPT into my rifle I shoot in NRL22 and PRS22 matches.  Similar distances that you’re shooting but from a variety of positions other than prone.  Tires, cinder blocks, tank traps, barricades, fences, RR ties, etc.

I’m using a lot of the same parts as you are:

Area 419 30MOA rail
Area 419 bolt knob
Area 419 weighted Arca swiss rail
Timney Trigger
Atlas CAL bipod w/ Arca clamp
Grey Ops weighted gamer plate
IBI 20” barrel in 1:16 twist
Topped it off with a Burris XTR Pro 5-30x-56 scope with Burris Signature Rings with an additional 20MOA of cant built in.  I can dial approx 24MILS of up with a 50 yd zero which gets me out to about 450 yds before I have to use the reticle.

I started out shooting the .22 as a trainer for PRS centerfire matches, but find myself shooting more .22 matches than I am CF right now.

I'm going to do a winter build...

You certainly picked the right time of year.

Haven’t decided which barrel but have been eyeing the IBI 22”.

My IBI definitely shoots tighter groups than the OFM barrel (20” varmint profile) but one thing I’ve noticed in the last couple of months when the temps dropped was the cold bore shots hit about .4MIL high for the first 5-10 shots before it settles down.

I’m currently experimenting with different ammo, different muzzle devices, and possibly a barrel tuner.  If my issue persists I may go back to the stock barrel for the winter and retry the IBI in the spring when it warms up.

I'm doing a winter build using the cz 457 action and the KRG Bravo Chassis. Trying to install a magazine into the magwell is not the easiest thing to do with the opening the chassis has. So I decided to look for one on the internet. I came across one but it is held in place with the front action screw. I don't like that idea so I decided to design my own. Figured out how to download a image. This is the design I came up with for the magwell filler.

Ordered the barrel for my rifle build today and went with the ibi 22” barrel reason being is the chamber is a bc #4. I’ve read Bill Calfee’s book “The Art of Rimfire Accuracy” and based on his explanation of his chamber reamer and the accuracy of his rimfire rifle builds is what influenced my decision.

Installed and set for 10 oz. Purchased a Vortex Viper PST Gen II 5-25x50 and mounted now just waiting on the barrel.
