The extended safeties that come on the SP-01 Shadow seem like a good idea but I keep inadvertently bumping during competition.

All of the flat safety sets are out of stock but found one on CZ USA web store that is flat on left and extended on right.   Also debating buying a standard SP-01 left side “D” safety and grinding down if necessary.   Not overly concerned with aesthetics.

Anyone aware of any known issues doing the hack job or should I just man up and buy the set?  I have quite a bit of experience with shade tree mechanics on Sigs, 1911’s and Berettas but will be the first time tearing into a 75 based weapon.

I wouldn't hesitate to grind it down flat.

I rest my thumb on top of the safety.. keeps my grip high and no chance of engaging the safety.  Just an option you might try.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Thought about doing that also .. Have you tried it? I think you could get it flatter by grinding , but the overall size of the safety compared to the thin safety is a lot to get in the way of your grip. That’s the only reason I’m still waiting fir more flat safety’s to be back in stock.

I do that also for target practice but when in competition I always instinctively go back to things straight grip and usually bump the safety up just enough to jam my shot. Then it finally remember .. bleep thum bon top of the safety…LOL ! My natural grip is low. Same on my 1911’s I don’t ride the safety..just feels weird.🤔

Reporting out.

After handling my friend’s Shadow 2, I decided to buy the “Flat left, extended right” safety set from CZUSA website. No issues installing. No fitting necessary.

The flat safety is what I was looking for and makes it very unlikely to be bumped.

Of interest, is the fact that the extended side is a much better design than the one that originally comes on the Shadow and makes the safety actually usable in SA fire. Would be great for a “B” model or Chechmate.

1. Original safety, 2. Left-side flat, 3. Right-side extended & 4. Safety comparisons.
