Loctite blue 242 threadlocker
« on: January 11, 2023, 10:03:56 AM »
Hi,
So I'm adjusting my SAO trigger screws and I read on the Loctite package that this isn't to be used on plastic parts. I assume though that it's OK to use since that's what everyone recommends. It's occurred to me that with Loctite even if it doesn't lock the threads in place it produces so much friction between the male and female parts that nothing is ever going to move on it's own.
Thanks,
            M.

You are correct. LocTite will cause crazing and cracking in polycarbonate plastics.

Most triggers are metal and the instructions you are reading apply to those.

Hi,
So what's going to happen to my Armory Craft/CZ SAO trigger now that I've used the Loctite?
Thanks,

Armory craft triggers should be aluminum and you should be fine.

The solvent in the loctite could react with polymer parts but I'm guessing a short period contact while the loctite dry's (solvent evaporates) wouldn't have immediate affects on the trigger (speculation)?  I really depends on the polymer type the trigger is made from and the solvent used in the loctite and how compatible those two materials are with each other.

The Nylon materials I've been printing triggers out of seems to be very chemical resistant.  I've abused them with brake cleaners, gun cleaners, and oils without any change in performance over the last two years or so.

Cheers,
Toby

Hi,
The Armory Craft SAO trigger they sell is a CZ product and I thought that the CZ SAO trigger was plastic. I think I've read that people comment on  the TS trigger being plastic so that's where I got the idea. As to the Loctite damaging the trigger I wonder if it's just surface crazing or deep structural cracks?
Thanks,

The TS triggers are plastic, but the SAO triggers sold by CZ are not.
