CZ75D complete parts fair value
« on: January 14, 2023, 03:23:51 PM »
A well known custom gunsmith that has a great reputation on this forum took my son’s CZ75D in for refinishing and trigger work. While they had it in the shop and were disassembling it for refinish, the trigger bar spring screw broke. In an effort to remove it, without informing  or consulting me, they went ahead and used a carbide cutter and ended up enlarging the hole and thus destroying the frame. The gun was functional when it went into the shop and is now a parts kit.

They refuse to accept full responsibility for this and have offered a P01 at their cost (so we pay their cost) with $100 salvage value for what was a $400-450 gun going in. This does not sit right with me: the only complete slide I’ve seen sold was for a P01 that went for $570 on eBay, a stripped slide at Apex is $199 and just a used extractor, firing pin, hammer and trigger alone would be more than $100 on top of that. To say nothing of all the other parts.  Another forum has given me values of $250-350 for the complete slide alone. So I’m reaching out to this forum: what would the fair value of an early CZ75D in good condition parts kit be? The $100 offer seems to be completely against the reputation this shop has for fair dealing, Their offer puts them out $0 and us at a loss of at least $300 for damage that occurred while the firearm was in their shop.

Hard to believe "a custom gunsmith that has a great reputation on this forum " would respond in such a way.  So much for his reputation and credibility. SMH

Well, we only have 2 or maybe 3 that fit the bill, so I wonder why the OP is being coy.

Not being coy. Looking to inform ongoing negotiations with a more reasonable value and give the shop an opportunity to uphold their reputation for fair dealing.

Sounds like at a minimum he should source an appropriate frame and put the pistol back together at no additional cost.

Small claims court for a shop that’s halfway across the country over what’s essentially a $350 dispute doesn’t come out.

Well then, I think you've got the answer you need. So to prevent any more unfounded speculation:

While at the same time starting a "trial by Ophra" on the internet to support ONE SIDE of this story.

Look... if you want to ask the value of the parts, then that's fair.

BUT, the rest of this is one-sided accusation, a trial by kangaroo court. The sentence to be formulated by the jury who only has one side of the story. This kind of thing is only done by the US Congress.

Sir, you have mistaken the CZ Forum for Facebook ! We won't allow this type character assassination here. This thread is locked. If you'd like to open a new thread asking ONLY the value, please do so, but this type thing won't be tolerated here.
