CZ83 problems; maybe need gunsmith suggestions
« on: January 27, 2023, 07:45:54 AM »
So I took my almost new but used CZ83 to the rang for the first time and had the following happen:

1. First mag, perfect.

2. Second mag: couple of rounds normal, than a string of 4-5 rounds that went brrrrppp full auto.

3. Went with mags loaded with 2-3 rounds and experienced several doubles and several cases of singles but the hammer followed the slide home and put it in double action mode instead a cocked hammer / single action.

Seems like a sear / hammer / disconnect or related spring issue but I'm just guessing. FYI, was using PPU and S&B ammo. Didn't make any difference in terms of malfunctions.

Anyone else have any experience with this disease and what the cure is?

Secondly, is there a short list of qualified gunsmiths for these older models?

Here’s an old thread on this issue. I saved it because of the last comment.

I noticed there was a gunsmith with a membership here but I can't contact him; either I don't have access or he's no longer a member. It's an old thread.

I did stumble on this great reference though:

its a sear spring issue most likley. look though AC_CZ's link and also check out links within the post. its a bitch to get the sear spring in correctly sometimes but it can be done.

I had a similar issue where the gun wouldn’t go off then it would go off, I bought a trigger bar kit and had that installed. This fixed the issue. However the smith told me there was nothing wrong with the parts I had him replace except that they were extremely dirty. It was his thought that it would have been fixed also by cleaning them. I purchased my trigger bar kit from aim surplus last summer for 30 dollars.

"Reassembly
At this point you have two choices:

1) Put all 50 pieces in a paper bag, go to your local gunsmith, and tell him you have a "bag gun".

2) Put it back together."

ROFL. "bag gun" Love it! Think I'd stick the parts on the shelf right next to my 40 year old Rubik's Cube that I randomly twist 2 or 3 times a year just to see if it will magically align. I figure that event will portend the end of the universe. FYI, not even close to a Rubik's alignment after 40 years, so relax. ;D :P

I used this guy for mine and he did wonders

Shepherds firearms and gun smithing in Cloquet Minnesota. He was able to fix another gunsmiths bad work. He also has the ability to make parts springs and such.
