Precision Delta 124gn JHP V2
« on: February 17, 2023, 02:54:58 PM »
Bought a few of these a month or so ago and finally got around to developing into finished rounds.

I’ve seen a number of people on the forum use PD’s original JHP target to great success but I wanted to try these out and I’m looking for an accurate projectile that will feed reliably in both my Shadow and my Frankengun PCC.

After I ran the ladders I ran a 50-round production on my Dillion to verify velocities and accuracy. I’ll do more this weekend but the Shadow liked them and to my surprise they ran in the PCC. Cloverleaf groups with the pistol at 15 yards.

Below, I included a screenshot of my notebook. Included measurements etc if anyone is interested.

No QC issues with these. Used the RN end on a Dillion seating die that fed them without pressure on the tip. Loaded consistently. I ended up ordering another 2K.

After my last post I've tried to get more organized and not take any stupid shortcuts.   :)

I haven't been on their site in awhile, but if my bad memory serves (and it has failed in the past), they previously offered a huge price break when ordering 3K. When ordered this way their bullets were the very least expensive you could buy anywhere. You had to read the fine print to find this out.

The 3600 count is definitely the better deal @ $.095 a round but I blew my shooting budget on powder and primers. My LGS has pretty much given up on supplying reloaders.

The 2000 was a birthday present from my wife that she will soon find out about.

2000 will see me through the next couple of months and my wife can buy me some more for our Anniversary.

That's pretty much the way it is around here too.

Range Report:

Took 200 of them to the range today to sight in my RDS and practice. The CZ75 based weapons liked them. Got some decent 5 round groups at 15-yards sighting in the Shadow and put a few on paper with the BD. They basically go where they are pointed when the hammer drops.

They plunked in my P10 F but it did not not like them. There again, they were made for the Shadow. The P10 is a different beast while the chambers on my Shadow and BD are virtually identical, as are velocities. Would have to start over with the P10 figuring out max OAL and running ladders.

Ran well in the PCC and grouped well on steel at 50 but I didn’t shoot paper. I’m guessing about 1 1/2” groups with an Aimpoint.

The P10 didn't like them?

Accuracy or reliability?  Both?
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Accuracy.

They cycled reliably with stock springs but groupings were more spread out. They would stay in the white but nothing to write home about. Ejection was a little weak.

Generally my P10 is more accurate with hotter loads.

When I used the P10 in local matches, I had good luck with 124gn XTreme target HP’s driven to around 1120fps. I suspect these PD’s would do better with a little more powder and an OAL matched to the barrel.  Out of the P10 they we’re probably only running about 1040. My P10 is a little slower than my 75’s and the leade is a little longer.

Ok…

Bought 2000 more. This lot measures different from the first.

Previous lot, projectiles were fairly consistent at .573” long and weighed 124.0 grains on my scale.

This lot is less consistent on length coming in between.578 to .580 and weighing 124.2 grains.

Lot 1 push tested to 1.115” for a max OAL of 1.10”

Did 3 random on lot 2, gave me a push test of 1.15 for a max OAL of 1.135”. +\- .001

Back to the drawing board.

Kinda rubs because the 1st run was very darned accurate.

These seat about .005 deeper in the case for the same OAL.

Back to ladders….  Don’t anticipate much of a velocity bump though at 5 grains. Curious if running the same OAL will be as accurate.

Ran a quick 50 rnd test today on lot 2.

The variance between lot 1 and lot 2 have negligible effects.

5gns BE-86 loaded to 1.10”

10 round test on Prochrono:

Average velocity: 1092
ES- 23
SD - 7

Ran 5 of lot 1 and came up with:

AV 1089
ES 22
SD 8

Bit shaky today, but 15 yard group sizes were decent. Still my favorite ammo combination for Shadow 1.
