Which CZ?
« on: July 25, 2003, 12:38:53 PM »
I am planning on buying a .223 Remington in a CZ527 American, CZ527 Varmint Kelvar or CZ527 Varmint Laminate. Weight is a big factor since I "walk & stalk" for woodchucks. The American is 6.2 pounds with a 21.9" barrel, the Kelvar is 7.5 pounds with a 24" barrel and the Laminate is 8.0 pounds with a 24" barrel. I seldom fire multiple shots so barrel heat up is not a factor. I believe that the American is bedded with two action screws and the two Varmint models have an aluminum bedding block. What is the accuracy potential of these three rifles?
I don't want to carry extra weight if there is no big difference in group size but I don't want to give better accuracy for the sake of a pound or so.
Price difference between the American and the Kelvar is about $150.
Thanks

Going by what you've stated I'd op for the standard American version.  You'll should have good accurancy with any of these versions.   A Shooting Times review of the kevlar CZ 527 (in April issue) had the following results: five shot group averaged 1.89" from 300 yards with Hornady 40 gr V-max. 100 yard group avg with same round was .59".
