safari magnum barrel tie down
« on: October 13, 2003, 09:24:20 AM »
Wondering if anyone has knowledge concerning the front barrel tie down that CZ uses on the safari magnum rifles? Mine shoots very well as equipped, but should I decide to replace the hogback stock, would like to know if any of the aftermarket synthetics will retain this feature. I have yet to see another manufacturer use a design like this to distribute recoil forces. Even with this system, the barrel on my rifle floats for 19", so I'm pretty certain it doesn't hamper accuracy, just wanted some feedback.

Sorry I don't have a comment.  I'm not real good at this forum stuff.  This was one way to say thanks for your input about the .458 rings.  I did not know any other way to get to you.

First, glad that John posted(write down anything related to rifles which you always wondered, you'll be surprised to info. which might help you out):D

I once ordered a stock which was for a BKK(Bauska rifle which was a copy of a ZKK with a 3 position safe shroud/Winchester 70 style), this stock was almost a copy except for the tie-down which was heftier. In the case of synthetics(this is my opinion) the tie-down should not be necessary since fibers are randomly reinforcing the stock(which is not the case of wood stocks which are longitudanaly parrallel: easier to split). The tie-down is only lowering the lever effect of barrel flipping & pushing to the rear, this is why Magnum Mauser 98s(wood stocks) are reinforced in the rear of magazine & wood bearing lug(opposite end of recoil). So we see that these are 2 school of thoughts but both are right. Proper bedding would also help:D
