Problem w slide stop …
« on: March 20, 2023, 11:21:47 AM »
Hey folks, got my new P 10c to the range this past weekend. Had to stop before finishing first box because the slide stop edge was digging into the thumb on my strong hand. Tried adjusting grip every which way, but nothing worked.  Anyone else had this problem? Thought maybe to sand the edge down, but don’t want to do that unless there’s nothing else be done. Any ideas?
Thanks

My thumb and the P10 slide lock hate each other too.
I also was tempted to sand it down, but never got around to it.  I think that HB Industries makes an extended slide stop that I think would cut down on the abrasion, but you would likely interfere with the slide locking if you leave your thumb there.
I tried a Talon rubber grip to see if that moved my thumb naturally, but it stayed right there.

My solution was to park the p10's in the safe and shoot my CZs with hammers

Thanks for your reply, but was really hoping for different answer - I don’t have a back-up cz. Couldn’t rent before buying, because there were none to be had in CT (that I could find, anyway) and bought based on strong online reviews, but without shooting. In a bit of a pickle …

Well you can certainly modify it to alleviate the issue which at this point seems the best course of action if you want to continue with the P10C. I know you want a better answer but some guns simply don't fit some hands well. I know from past experience and I won't buy anything I can't handle first these days. I've been intrigued by certain pistols only to find when I actually got one in the hand I was never going  to buy it.

Order a new/spare slide stop from CZ.

Modify it, or the original till it suits you.  If it works, you're good.  If not, you've got the new/spare to replace it with.

You should be able to find someone in your area that cerakotes pistols/parts and once you're happy with the new shape and it's effects on your thumb you could get it coated to make it look nice again and protect the exposed metal surfaces.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Maybe, but seems like a lot of work to put into a pistol that I hoped was going to feel right out of the box. Not sure what next steps are going to be. Thanks for the advice guys.

Good grief - a replacement/new slide stop lever to try modifying would be +$80. Thinking I may cut costs and look to sell the pistol. Never done a private sale and don’t relish the thought of it, but want to avoid throwing good money after bad.

Then sell/trade it off.

If a pistol shoots good enough for me I'm willing to invest money/time in it.  The RMRs I bought for my P07 and P09 cost more than the P07 and P09 cost.  Added the cost of shipping, milling for the RMR and rear back up sight, the cost of the sights and the refinishing of the slide and I had over $1000 in what started out as a $400 pistol.  Well worth it then (10 or 12 years ago) and I'm still carrying the P07 .40 almost daily.

Good luck with that new pistol.

Frustrating because I got the P10 partly because reviews all said I wouldn’t have to modify as heavily as my G19, but ultimately, it’s on me - I shouldn’t have bought a pistol without firing it first. Lesson learned. I’ll take it to the range a couple more times and make a decision.

Thanks.

I have thousands of rounds through a P10c with no issues. Yes I fitted an HBI trigger, but that's it. The gun is my favorite shooter.

With any problem with thumbs interfering with the SS on any gun, you can put your thumb OVER the weakside thumb joint and the problem goes away.  This takes a conscience effort then it becomes second nature.  Sig shooters know this.
