Replacement sights question
« on: March 26, 2023, 09:56:43 PM »
First year anniversary of the purchase of my CZ 75 SP01 and I'm looking to change the sights.   The pistol came with night sights but my primary use is competition.  In lighted or outdoor conditions, my 62 year old eyes struggle a bit to pick up the front sight.   I'm thinking of getting a fiber optic from sight hoping it's easier for me to pick up.

Anyone have any recommendations?   I'm not interested in milling for a red dot.   Thanks in advance

FWIW, I have Truglo and CGW's fiber-optic sights.  I like them both for various reasons.

I had a gunsmith install a set of Dawson Precision sights when he was installing a CGW pro package.

+1 for the Truglo fiber optic set. I'm 64, and the Truglo front sight is very narrow, leaving lots of light on both sides. Helps my acquisition a lot. I also like that the rear sight isn't a giant rectangle. Just my humble opinion. Picked up a set on Amazon about two weeks ago for $51.

I have a similar situation with my older eyes and have changed most of my handguns to a front fiber optic. I have CGW EZD940 sights on a 75b and a set from CZ Custom on another pistol, either is good.

I'm a fan of the Dawson Precision sights.  They have a wide selection that could be a little daunting to figure out.  I'd recommend you install the rear sight you want first then go shoot groups with all the ammo you typically shoot and get an elevation correction average (point of aim vs point of impact).  Then you can make an informed decision on what height front sight you need for your specific gun.

I tried to install the CGW EZD sight set but they weren't regulated for my pistol and the point of impact was way off.  I kept the CGW EZD rear and purchased a separate front sight from Dawson using their sight perfect impact calculator:  https://dawsonprecision.com/sight-calculator/

The CGW EZD rear sight is a great competition sight:  https://cajungunworks.com/product/ezd-rear-sight-only/

Note CZ's have two different depth dovetails for front sights.  The SP01 uses the 0.060 depth dovetail front sight found here:  https://dawsonprecision.com/sights-for-cz-75-sp-01-front-fiber-optic-by-dawson-precision/

Good luck!

Cheers,
Toby

Dawson front fiber (.125W .135H) on 4 of my 75s with blacked out factory rear. I'm very happy with the results for my old eyes.

For blacked out factory rear, I've seen the factory sight flipped around so it is facing in the opposite direction; thus providing the blacked out rear.  Some guns (i.e. Glocks) are easier to do this than others, YMMV  ;)

I have CZs that came with red, 1mm, fiber rods for the front sight.  My Gunsmith replaces the red with green and flattens the fiber closer to a 1.5mm diameter.  As I age, the red is harder to pick up but green stands out more and is easier to pick up.  A little fatter dot (1.5mm rather than the stock 1mm) also aids in picking up the front sight dot.
Changing the color and size makes it easier (and quicker).  I don't think that it adds to accuracy; it's just easier and, therefore, more fun for me to shoot.
Otherwise, I have the sights changed to TruGlo TFX Pro Sights.  I picked up a P-01 with these sights already installed and found them the best aftermarket sights that I have tried.  They are green fiber (2 rear; 1 front) with self-illuminating behind the fiber.  A red/orange ring around the front fiber.  These get to be expensive with several CZs but enjoying shooting is a big part of shooting at my age.  I expect to run-out my time with these pistols and sights so the expense isn't a problem.

Cz custom has great sights and lots of choices. Put their competition rear and fiber front on my shadows and low profile rear and fiber front on stainless 75 and pcr.

Excellent!

I also ordered two Dawson FO front sights today for the Kadet and the 97.  I will use the Kadet's LPA adjustable rear sight and the 97's factory rear.  Once they are ready, I will post some photos  :)

I installed the new Dawson sights over the weekend and shot an indoor match last night.   Wow is all I can say!   The fiber optic lit up so bright my old eyes had no issue seeing it. After my first course of fire I knew it was money well spent
