Oversized bore on cz custom barrel
« on: April 29, 2023, 05:04:07 PM »
Put a barrel in my SP01 shadow and went to test some rounds through it. Would not group with anything, lead, jacketed, nothing. Finally slugged it and it is measuring .356. Not looking to load .357 bullets for one gun so will cz custom take back an oversized bore 9mm barrel? Have not shot it very much since it groups terribly.

Well, I guess if it were me, I'd call or email them and ask. They're the only ones who can answer that question. You could wait a while for an answer just posting here.

Tried calling before but they said it is better to email. Sent them one and will see what the response is. Takes about a week.

Well they got back to me and asked about bullets used and how much crimp. When I told them about the 10x CGW bushing they thought that could be the problem. Seems they have had a lot of slides returned for barrel warranty work that had them. They reccomended the accu bushing install. $350 is a little steep. Will try the stock barrel and see how it does. If no better, then I will be looking for a new bushing.

Did they have anything to say about the barrel diameter? When you say it "wouldn't group", exactly what do you mean by that? What distance are you shooting, are you shooting from a rest, and what is your expectation for group size, etc.?

I was testing and sighting in for an upcoming match. Zeroing a Holosun 407K at 25 yards. I shoot off a bench rested on a shooting bag. When I mean it won't group, there is no consistency with where the shots are hitting 4"s apart from each other. Tried several different loads that will do under 1.5" in my p09, p07 and sp01 phantom. I put the stock barrel in and will give it another go this weekend. Also found an Eemann Tech bushing ordered from ipcsstore.com so we will see how that one does.

They looked up my order and I bought the barrel three years ago so not much they could do about the barrel. Didn't know I had it that long. Deffinately not shot very much.

Swapped the stock barrel back in it and shot some groups with the Cajun 10x bushing. It liked my RMR 124 copper load so I will have to stick with those for the match.

Has the barrel been properly fitted to the slide?  If it isn't locking up consistently then that could be the culprit?

I seem to recall my stock SP-01 barrel slugged at .3555.  I normally run .357 coated lead bullets and I don't think you will run into any issues running that size coated lead bullet through any 9mm barrel.

Cheers,
Toby

There was no real fitting needed. No play when pushing down on the hood at lockup and no play in the muzzle end. Gave it a slight chamber finish ream as it was tight but that was it. Crown looks good and the residue left from shooting on the crown is even and uniform.

I load .357 coated lead for all of my CZ's. Couldn't get the accuracy I wanted with coated lead .356 bullets. All of my CZ's slugged over .355, so my results line up with Toby's
