CZ 75 B .40SW Barrel Fitting with 9mm TS Barrel Questions
« on: July 01, 2023, 01:36:44 PM »
The Usual Suspects:

A.  CZ 75 B in .40SW
B.  TS 9mm barrel (5.2" L x 0.55" DIA)

Long story short, trying to fit the TS 9mm barrel in the .40SW slide.  The fitting went well and the
pistol was reassembled (Pic 1).  I thought I was almost go-to-go until I saw the 1/8" slack :-\ (Pic 2).

Between the barrels, the "peanut" is off-set by about 1/8"; which may account for the slack.  (TS barrel is rearwards)

I have read that the "peanut" area (Pic 3) may need to be modified.

Is the gap in Pic 3 causing the free play in the slide?
Or is it something else?
Or it won't work at all?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Slipgnir,

I sent mine to CZ Custom and they did the fitting work.  Wound up adding some adjustable sights as the POIs were significantly different between 9mm 124/115 and 40 S&W 180/155 grain bullets.  Great rig, added a Kadet II kit and use it as a training pistol for new shooters. Almost every one I instruct with this rig buys a CZ.

Best wishes on your project.

Thanks for the heads up JW.  CZC barrels will definitely work.  I just thought I give it a go.

I converted the .40 to SAO and shoot the Kadet II with a 15# hammer spring.  Adding a 9mm to the .40
will be icing on the cake  :)

Pic 3, that gap needs to be fixed. You have to remove material from front of the peanut in TS factory barrels if you want to make them work in standard CZ 75 pistols.

Thanks coolbox for the confirmation!

I removed about 2mm from the peanut (Pic A) and the slack is gone (Pic B).
To finish the mod, I need to widen the guide rod notch to make sure that
it seats about half-way, like the .40SW barrel.

The modified TS 9mm barrel in the CZ 75 .40SW performed flawlessly at the range
with the 9mm recoil spring.  There was no need to modify the existing ejector or
the extractor.  I used a Mec-Gar SP-01 magazine, which accepts both 9mm and .40 rounds.

The CZ 75 .40SW can now shoot .40SW, 9mm and .22LR with the Kadet II.

Quick question: why did you choose to go with TS barrel, and not with SP-01 barrel?

Quick question: why did you choose to go with TS barrel, and not with SP-01 barrel?

I am a certified CZ nut and a born tinkerer; thus the SP-01 barrel swap would be too easy, LOL  ;D

I got the TS barrel for a good price, and that's the main reason.  Even if I mess up the project,
it would be a good experience.

In hindsight, I was lucky because the "peanut" area between the .40SW barrel and the TS barrel are
close enough within tolerance to make it work.

I tried to fit the modified TS barrel in the SP-01 and it didn't work.  It probably would if I remove some material
inside the "peanut" of the TS to match the geometry with the SP-01.

A man's gotta know his limitations, and I am not going to push my luck  :)

I am happy with the TS barrel in the .40.
