Another which one
« on: July 01, 2023, 05:31:25 PM »
Read several threads on the P-01 and P-07.  Both are great compact options, and the P-01s are priced higher.  I own a PCR and considering both.  Right now, the P-01 has a slight lead for me because they share magazines with my PCR.

If you believe the P-07s are better, please share why.  I understand this is subjective and just wanted some feedback from real life owners.  Thank you.

Terry- IMO, either will serve you well- depends on what you prefer. I’m not giving you the answer you want as it gets to personal preference- not what is the better gun.

While I don’t have a P07, I do have a P09 and prefer shooting & carrying my P01 and PCR.  But the P09 is super accurate, boringly reliable & is currently my house gun.  I shot it exclusively (& successfully) in an IDPA season years ago.

So goes to what you prefer- either is a fine firearm

Both are great guns but it is absolutely personal preference. I own both and while my P-07 is accurate and reliable I much prefer the PCR for the much better way it feels in my hand compared to the P-07. So much so that I own 3 PCR's and just one P-07. The metal framed compacts simply shoot better for me.
Once again it's a preference thing so handle both and see what feels best.
As a side note the standard compact mags from the PCR/P-01 will function in the P-07 but the P-07 mags WILL NOT function in the metal framed compacts.

As tanners owner stated ... it really boils down to personal preference.I have owned the PCR, Steel compact and now own my second P07. FOR ME ... the P07 just fits may hands better. I am able to really envelope the gun and I get super low recoil from it. I like the larger trigger guard and while it may not actually be the case I feel like I can get on the trigger faster. I like the flat sides of the p07. Even with thinner grips on the metal frames it didnt feel as good to shoot or carry. The latest p07 is my carry gun. Does that make one better than the other. Nah ... just Personal preference. I think it makes a better CCW gun. It carries easier for me and subjectively feels a little faster to shoot.

Now, although it is a little unrelated to your question. Unless the PCR or P01 is going to be a back up safe queen .. I personally cant see owning  the two since they are nearly identical. Like many here I have more than a couple of handguns. When I bring them to the range I DO want them to have different shooting experiences. Case in point .. I really like revolvers. I like the GP series from Ruger and had it in 3", 4" and 6". Mind you I am not a collector. I soon realized that they all for the most part felt exactly the same when shooting. I mean .. they were all basically the same gun. I got bored and landed up keeping the 3" which may be my very favorite gun and sold the other two off to buy other toys.

Thank you for your insights.  I gave this some thought, and purchased a PX4 compact (9mm).

I’ve tried one(px4) a while ago, and was impressed.

For me, I’d like to get another DA/SA carry gun; the 3 top contenders are CZ P07, SIG SP2022, and Beretta PX4.  All depends on the deal I can make.  As I’m not in a hurry, this task may take awhile ;D

We share similar thoughts because I wanted another good shooting DA/SA to pair with my PCR.  Take your time because the right deal will surface.

I carry a P-07.  If I were to get a metal-framed CZ for carry it would be the P-01 Omega.  The reason is I'm left-handed and want to be able to easily de-cock the pistol one-handed before re-holstering, so I look for pistols that have ambi-decockers.  I would also consider a PX4 Storm with decocker only, for the same reason.

I picked up the P01 > PCR > P07… for me the better combo/collection is the P01/P07. The PCR is just the non-rail P01 alloy frame classic. Really all the PCR does for me is share mags, the P07 is the modern/poly version of the P01 while reshaping the front slide/serrations – enhancing melted carry profile, increasing front gripping surface notwithstanding pleasing aesthetics (nicer than the P10).
Not a deal breaker and moot, the P07 has a better iteration LCI. If I had picked up the P07 first, I would not have the PCR.
YMMV.

How does the 07 shoot vs the metal twins?

Without measured observations, seems to me the P07 is flatter (heavier muzzle heavy slide).
P01 PCR P07 are the same guns, neither is better than the other, which do you like, there is no better/bad choice.
P01 Mec-Gar mags are cheaper, P07 mags are “CZ” Mec-Gar. P01-D to match your PCR, P07 the poly tech hammer compact.
My 2022 P01/PCR were ~$800 OTD, last mo P07 was $417 OTD (Scheels instant GC promo) – then a no brainer.
Good luck.

Both are accurate, reliable and ergonomic, but the ergos differ as to people.

The P01 will be more versatile in terms of grip - you can go thin or thick and in between.

The 75 system is MORE refined - if you cajunize it can get VERY good and you can derive a more solid 'tight' feel out of the trigger becuase of the design and alloy frame.  Hard to describe.

Typically, the omega trigger system feels a tad more cheap and wobbly to me.  Will you shoot it better?  Maybe not.
