P-01 EDC Mods?
« on: August 09, 2023, 06:53:59 PM »
I've got a P-01 that I've ben carrying for a couple of years. I've been looking at CGW and the defensive package. First question is, do you upgrade your EDC?  Does introducing new parts ever worry you about reliability (if self installed)? Also if I do get that kit, how is the install? I did install the MCarbo spring kit on my P07. Is it harder than that? Thanks for any help!

If your P-01 is an Omega it's just like the P-07 which is an easy install for the M*CARBO. If it's not the Omega, it's more difficult, but with patience it's doable provided you cuss a lot.

I'll upgrade if it needs it. As long as you're using parts from a reputable company (and Cajun is certainly reputable) and installing them correctly, it's rarely an issue. The other half of the equation is testing what you have, especially with your carry ammo. If something is beyond your confidence and/or abilities, take it to a professional.

Also if I do get that kit, how is the install?

If you have a non-Omega, the most difficult part of the install is the sear cage assembly. As long as you follow the tutorials on Cajun's website, it's not super hard. Buying their tools and using a magnetic gun mat also goes a long way.

Another thing to keep in the back of your mind is "Don't fix what isn't broken." I great piece of advice I was once given is "Get it to where you want it and leave it alone." What I like about CGW is that they offer all the individual parts of their kits, so you can scale up to what you want. My suggestion is to start out with one of their Ultralite kits and see where you sit then. If you still feel like the gun needs work, then get the additional parts to scale up to their SRS kit. If you're still not satisfied, then get a hammer and disconnector. The last thing I'd add is the trigger shoe as that's mostly a preference thing. If you end up with the whole shebang at the end, you'll have spent a few dollars more than just buying the whole kit at once, but if at any point you stop short, you'll have saved yourself much more.

Thanks for the help everyone. It's NOT an omega although my wife has one ( >:().  I will say I have old hands and that mcarbo kit for the P07 got me making up cuss words. I'll probably send everything off to Cajun, including an optic cut. I've got a few glocks I can get rid of to foot the bill haha

I was able to do my Gen 1 P01 myself... just barely. But you should know one of my other hobbies is clock and watch repair. So my tools, bench and skills are slightly above average.

Still, the videos to support your effort are all presented on the CZ Gunsmithing sub-forum.
