frustrating problem with DWX Compact
« on: August 16, 2023, 07:18:57 PM »
No, it's not a problem with the pistol itself, but with the magazines.  DW advertises that the DWX compact uses CZ75 magazines.  Well, that is true, but it isn't. The magazine tube is the same, but the base plate isn't.

Since the DWX website is out of stock on DWX compact mags ($55 ea) I found a deal on MecGar CZ75 mags and thinking I was getting by cheap, I ordered three.  Just got the mags today and they are the usual MecGar great quality, but they won't fit in the DWX compact. They go in just fine, but they won't lock in.

Turns out the DWX compact uses a thin base plate to cut down overall size which is not as thick as the standard base plate on a CZ75 mag. The extra thickness of the CZ75 will not allow the mag to be fully inserted into the compact DWX.  Just to check, I tried the MecGar mag in my CZ Shadow Line compact and same thing, goes in but will not lock in place. If I put the DWX mag in the Shadow Line it locks in place but there is a gap between the base plate and the bottom of the pistol grip.

So just a warning for all of you new DWX Compact owners, if you plan on stocking up on CZ75 mags for your DWX, they won't work......that is unless you replace your base plates to the thinner DWX style base plate.  Just a heads up.

After a little researching I have learned more about this subject. CZ is working on getting a supply of the base plates that will work with the DWX compact, but have no idea when the details will be completed and they have inventory.

In the meantime you can go to the Henning Group, (which manufacturers the base plate as well as other DWX products for Dan Wesson) at this address:

https://www.henningshop.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1426322&CAT=10227

This will take you to a product called "Henning Group PRO Series Base Pad for Sig Sauer P320 X5 / X-Series".  You can order the authentic DW baseplate for the compact by using this order form, but IMPORTANT, in the items comment section add that ******these base plates are for use in the DWX Compact******, and Henning will substitute the DW baseplate.

They are in the process of making a permanent listing for the DWX part, but this will work for now. Just make certain to add that statement in the comment section so that Henning will make the substitution. If you want to double check all of this call Henning at 720-325-7890.

I think all you need  is the thin metal base plates. I have 3 extras and will be happy to send them to you.

Well the way I read it on the DW website they do not state that the CZ 75 compact mags fit but what they state is that the DWX compact borrows the 75 compact mag BODY and uses Henning base plates. I see no where on the site where they say the regular mags fit. So maybe you could contact DW or Henning and see if you can get the proper baseplates.
Per the DW site: https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/dwx-compact/
