Picked up a DWX compact but....
« on: August 23, 2023, 11:15:17 AM »
My DWX compact came with a dead tritium front sight.  Found out you can't calm Dan Wesson directly anymore, it goes to CZ and they just say to fill in the warranty form online.
I did that and was told they don't ship sights and I have to ship the whole pistol back to them.  It's been a few days and thye still haven't sent me a shipping label. This is frustrating and not the kind of customer service I heard DW is known for.

Seems crazy to me, too.

First time the tritium front sight in my P01 Omega died they said ship us the slide and we'll take care of it.  10 days later I had the slide back with a new front sight in it.  About 7 years ago.

Second time the tritium front sight died I had to ship them the whole pistol.  Seems crazy they need the whole pistol, plus a magazine in order to replace a defective tritium sight.  And it took a month or more to get my P01 from them.  Last year.

Things change,
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Yeah I get it no one likes to wait and you can bet I'm the same way. Thing is though if we want them to warranty the parts we are at their mercy as to how they handle it. I fully understand why they won't send just a sight to a person on a warranty claim. This thread in the gunsmithing section is a prime example as to why they want the gun back at the mother ship.

Everyone hates sending back a firearm for warranty work about as bad as they hate going to the doctor for a prostate exam.

I would imagine there are more than a few reasons for this, such as:

1.  As much as I hate to say this, there are some less than honest owners that may try to pull a scam, by sending the unserialized slide from another similar firearm for repair, or actually causing the problem through carelessness or abuse but trying to get the firearm fixed for free by the manufacturer.

2.  The manufacturer wants to make sure that the repair work has been done correctly. If the home repair was botched by the owner then the manufacturer could be stuck with repairing more than originally claimed, even if it was the owner's fault.

3.   If the repair was done incorrectly, the firearm might fail again resulting in a second warranty claim, or even worse, injury to the owner.

4.   There are probably some legal requirements that the work be done by a certified gunsmith so that the manufacturer is not held liable for shoddy workmanship. We're living in a society that loves to sue companies. Making sure the firearm is properly repaired and having a record of that repair helps protect the manufacturer from possible lawsuits. It also benefits the owner too.

5.   Most manufacturers require that the firearm be returned for repair. In order for the warranty to stay in effect, we have to follow rules.

If your front sight is seated as tightly as a P10C front sight, you're better off sending it in.
