Colt is still having problems

 After seeing several good reviews on the new Python and thinking Colt had fixed all the issues with the new generation Python's I bought a new recent production 4 1/4" about 8 months ago. Boy was I wrong after about 2000 rounds my cylinder has stopped rotating in double action. To say I'm disappointed is a understatement.

Yeah that sucks out loud. The entire first run of those were recalled for exactly this issue so obviously they still have problems. Pretty bad when they can't even get what was their bread and butter right anymore.

Bread and butter, yes. But not for this generation of gunsmiths.

I'm reminded of a recent news story. Stinger Missiles were needed for Ukraine, but they hadn't been made since the 1990's. Raytheon actually had to call in retired employees to teach the new engineers how to build the old missiles... even though they had all the old drawings, parts lists and tooling.

 I sent my 2020 Python back to Colt 9/15/23 and received it back today. The repair order said adjust hand to factory spec and test for function 9/28/23. The timing seems to be correct and the cylinder now rotates but it didn't look like it had been test fired.  I fired 150 hot magnum rounds through it this afternoon and it seems to be a 100% I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Seems like I read (decades ago) that the Colt design wears parts much faster than the S&W design.  Both are designs from late in the century before the century we finished up 23 years ago but the S&W guns just run longer without having the wear/timing issues Colts get into.

Just something I remember reading in the early to mid 80's - 1980's.

 I think Colt rushed the new Python to market like Sig has been doing recently and many of their new guns haven't been ready for primetime. Colt has had many issues over the last 20 or 30 years lets hope CZ gets them back on track.

 I've had my new Python back from the Colt repair shop for a couple weeks now and the cylinder does rotate 100% now but it now has a new issue with light hammer strikes about 10% of the time when firing in DA. Federal and Winchester standard pistol primers seem fine but Winchester and CCI magnum primers are having issues. The primers are seated on one of my Dillon 550's at .001" to .002" below flush and all seem to work fine in my vintage Python and S&W revolvers. I also had 6 rounds from a fresh box of factory magnum ammo fail to fire. I bought the new 2020 Python to save wear and tear on my classic 1968 6" blue Python that has never had a problem so I'm unhappy with Colt. My advice to anyone in the market for a revolver is to pass on Colt until they fix their QC.

did you contact the OEM and see what they will do?  If not, i would and go from there.

 It's last trip back to Colt took over a month and then being returned  with a new issue I'm not eager to return it again.  After removing the stocks I found metal shavings so I decided to give it an overnight bath in mineral spirits and a good flush with gun scrubber and another trip to the range. This weekend I plan on testing it with a fresh box of Federal  357 mag. 158gr JSP's and one more box of my reloads with new Starline brass and RMR 147gr. smiley face jacketed bullets over 16 gr. of W296 and primers from a different of lot. If it fails again it will go back to Colt .

 I feel like todays range trip was a success my new Python fired 100 of my magnum loads with Winchester magnum small pistol primers and a full box of Super vel factory ammo. I did have one light strike with CCI magnum primers but that is okay I never have liked CCI primers.
