Question about SP01 Firing Pin Block Deletion with CGW Pro Kit
« on: October 14, 2023, 03:44:33 PM »
I recently bought an SP01 as a second gun. Put a CGW pro-pack in it. Now I think I want to remove the firing pin block. Anyone have any thoughts on this? will I still have the same amount of pretravel? Not really seeing how that could change (but i am new to doing these types of mods). My other concern was filth around the firing pin.
I'm interested to hear about anyone's experience doing this. This is going to be used in IDPA with DA as the first shot.

I don’t think you can remove a safety device and use it in IDPA.

You may be correct... but is someone challenges my gun that means I'm winning! [emoji1787]

Yep, defeating an oem safety device is against IDPA rules. It will only really help shorten travel if you buy a shadow disconnector and have a pre-travel screw in your trigger. Is the gun a safety or de-cocker model?

It is a safety model. I have already installed a pro kit (CGW). The total feel of the trigger is still a little lacking... it is far better than when it came outta the box, but certain there is more

You could give CGW a call and tell them what you are after but you pretty much get what you get. If the trigger is properly adjusted as far as pre and overtravel that's all there is. Short of going to a single action design this is just the way of the DA/SA pistol.

Honestly, you would be better served by spending the money on training/ammo.  The difference between a block and nonblock gun on the clock is not going to amount to anything measurable.  Plus knowingly violating the rules is not cool in my book.  Go purchase a Shadow if you want to have a nonblock gun.

The filth around the firing pin is going to be there regardless if there is a block or not.

What are you not happy about with the CGW Pro kit trigger?

Cheers,
Toby

I have a Shadow 2 with a pro kit and it is incredible. Never said I wasn't happy, just that I want a little more. I put the stronger plunger spring in (from CGW) and I think I will try the oem spring. When I pull the trigger as slow as possible I think I can detect where the lifter starts to raise and the pull gets slightly stiffer. I'm sure when I'm moving and shooting none of this will register. But, I'm putting time and money into this, so why wouldn't I try to get the absolute most out of it. The defeating a safety feature argument is moot unless it is explicitly stated I can not alter it. In which case I will buy another IDPA gun. [emoji3] I'm starting hammer down DA. Using the gun in a safe direction. It is never loaded unless I'm using it in that manner. The only thing removing the plunger does is make it Not drop safe. As is my Shadow 2. (That was per cajun) they actually make a spacer to take the lifter space. Anyway, not looking to have a conversation on ethics [emoji38]. I am looking for knowledge about the gun itself. I do, however, respect your point.

Why not run the Shadow? She's overweight [emoji1787]

You can alter and remove the fpb safety to your hearts content and no one can stop you but as has been stated it's afoul of IDPA rules so it's not moot point it's you being disqualified when they see that you have modded your gun that way. Not realy that hard to comp is it?
And what is this "add something clever here" about??

I shot an SP01 Tac in IPSC with the FPB in place for several years. It never hurt my scores.

I'm with TDOGG. You'd do better to concentrate on your ammo and training.

It's a signature or tag line, but not done by using the profile setting.

No need to get fussy... after the "moot" I stated I would get another gun if needed. So, what about comprehension?
And the tag that is shaded out is from the app... so, I didn't add that. But I will try to remember to delete it...[emoji1787]

I believe it won't affect me, I'll never exceed the capacity of my guns... [emoji50]?[emoji100] but one satisfaction is trying to get the gun into top condition...
And I do train and spend on ammo... [emoji28]

IMHO, if you want to see your scores improve, then start reloading your own ammo.
