EVO3 S1 carbine to SBR conversion ... Is the barrel 2 piece?

Newbie here and my searches for this topic didn't yield any results. May be I wasn't searching right. So thought I would post this question here. I apologize if this question had already been asked. I own a EVO3 SB1 carbine. I was not knowledgeable about Rifles vs Pistols and hence thought the whole pistol/brace/SBR was too complicated so to keep it simple, just bought the carbine. Now I would like to SBR it and add a suppressor. In that process I started doing some research and taking measurements for the hand guard and noticed this.



From the first glimpse, the 16" barrel looks like a 2 piece. When I measured the length of the barrel from the receiver, it was around 7" from the receiver and another 9" from there to the muzzle. So my question is, is it really a 2 piece barrel? Given that the hand guard is only 11.5" or so long, if I could detach the muzzle and the 9" piece and attach a suppressor, It would be a very slick looking scorpion SBR with literally nothing but the tax stamps and suppressor cost. Could it be that easy? Am I that Lucky?

No, it’s not a two piece barrel, as you seem to describe, which, unless it’s already a registered SBR, would be illegal under the NFA, with a butt stock attached. The muzzle device / fake suppressor can come off and the trunion / barrel mount can come off, but that’s it.

There are several aftermarket pistol barrels available and maybe the OEM pistol barrels from CZ USA if you want to SBR it easily. Your 16” carbine barrel is worth something to those who want to convert their Scorpion pistols to rifles (I’d buy it if you want to sell).

Thank you MeatAxe! I did some more research on these barrels and actually spoke to someone at HB Industries that actually explained it better. The 16" barrel is a one piece but it has threads some where along the barrel, kinda in their middle. The Stock hand guard has a piece in the middle through which the barrel passes and for stability, there is a Nut screwed on to those threads. When I saw those threads, it looked like they were 2 barrels attached together. Where are u from? If u were to buy the barrel, would you need the hand guard as well? Apparently, the stock hand guard doesn't work with the aftermarket barrel and I will need to get a hand guard.

The stock hand guard is pretty heavy and clunky, anyway. There are several good aftermarket hand guards out there. I like the ones from Midwest Industries, myself. I’m sure any number of them would accommodate your suppressor or barrel.

Looks like the answer to my question was right there infront of me the entire time. Was wanting to see if the stock carbine handguard was big enough to put a short barrel and a suppressor ... and. looks like it is. This saves us a lot of money, as we dont need to get a new handguard...could be as simple as cutting and threading the barrel and use the existing handguard to convert it into an SBR

Well, if you’re going to the trouble and cost of SBRing your Scorpion Evo 3 carbine, you might as well replace the oem furniture, which is heavy, clunky and unergonomic compared to aftermarket offerings. Of course, up until a couple of months ago, you could have SBRed a Scorpion pistol for nothing.

At any rate, your 16” carbine barrel is probably worth $150 with the barrel mount / trunion attached and the muzzle device. Plus, assuming you can find a competent gunsmith to cut down and recrown your carbine barrel, and not sit on the shelf for months or years waiting for service, you’re probably better off buying an aftermarket pistol barrel.

That’s just my 2 cents.
