Bent Scorpion 3 Plus?
« on: December 12, 2023, 02:20:23 PM »
So when I sighted in a Micro 3 Plus the other day I could NOT HIT PAPER.  I moved up to 7 yards and discovered the sights made me hit far right.  I had to crank the rear sight ALL THE WAY LEFT to get it aligned.  The sights LOOK fine.  I cannot believe I had to move the rear sight all the way.  Perhaps the gun is somehow bent at the pic rail?  Wierd.

Also, while the CZ factory mags DO drop free, the new Pmags do not - you have to push the button AND pull them out with some force.  Anyone else find this out?  (The 3 Plus Magpuls drop free from a Evo S1 easily).

Look at your handguard as it relates to the receiver. If the handguard has rotated, even slightly, it could put the front sight enough out of alignment as to max out windage.

The easiest way to check is compare the picatinny rail on top.

If the handguard is straight, then contact CZ.

What sights do you have on your scorpion. Check to make sure the sights are seated all the way down and bottomed out to the top of the rail. If you do have the plastic MagPul sights check to make sure the sights haven't been "over" tightened causing them to distort.

Rail is straight as an arrow.  Sights are the normal 3+ sights - higher than the Evo S1.  They are locked in solid.

It is truly bizarre - makes no sense.

Yes, regrettably I'll be calling CZ.

Is there a muzzle device that might be interfering with the accuracy? If so, take it off and see how it shoots. Does the crown of the barrel look ok? Maybe run a bore scope down it to see if anything is amiss.

Maybe check the torque on the receiver screws?

No - it has the micro can - cannot interfere.  Shoots nice becuase I had an optic.  The thing has to be totally bent.

I guess stranger things have happened coming out of the factory…can you see the bend looking straight down the bore? Only other thing is maybe the fake suppressor is creating some barrel harmonics, so maybe try shooting it without that useless muzzle device.

This is a very common result when the shooter is cross dominant. For instance, he/she is Right-handed, but Left eye dominant.

Common solutions would include....
• Learning to shoot Left-handed
• Covering the lens of his shooting glasses for his dominant eye with the frosted type of Scotch tape. This forces the brain to receive sighting information from the "lazy eye".

Doing a quick eye dominance test should prove/disprove this theory.

Well that’s interesting.

I am right handed, left eye dominant and shoot right handed. I know for depth perception and peripheral vision you want to shoot a 1x optic with both eyes open, which is nearly impossible with a long gun when you’re left eye dominant and shoot right-handed, without seeing either the reticle or the target picture double. So to compensate, I naturally either fully or partially close my left eye, or otherwise block or diminish the view of my left eye with an open lens cap to get a clear view of the reticle through my right eye and still retain some depth perception through the optic and peripheral vision on the left side.

But I guess if you were so left eye dominant that it completely overrode your right eye in that circumstance, that it could skew your aim / POI through the 1x optic.

This would all depend upon upon how the weapon is held during firing. Held like a rifle with cheek-on-stock it would have a big effect. Held like a handgun, then yes, but to a smaller degree.

I don't own a scorpion or anything like it, so I don't know how it's held. But I recognize the symptoms from 20 years of teaching riflery to beginners.

The gun is on its way to CZ USA.  We'll see what they say - the sights look fine.   The rail looks a tad odd, but I didn't bother in any analysis - it was a challenge to get the thing hitting center, but shot fine as stated once I moved the sights RADICALLY.  It does group - nothing interfering.
