Removal of front sight on 1989 CZ75
« on: January 03, 2024, 03:54:22 PM »
I'm new to CZ's, so be gentle... I picked up a 1989 CZ75 and love the gun, except I can't see the original front sight for the life of me!  After looking at it, I can't see how to replace it.  I've seen other CZ's with a roll pin on the front sight, but mine doesn't have that.

1. Can this be done?
2. If so, could I go back to the original sight later if I wanted to preserve the originality?
3. What are my options for replacement sights if doable?

Appreciate the help.

Pre-B 75's have a staked fron sight. If you want to replace it with something more modern, machining($$) is required. Most people find it isn't worth the expense.

Is it a Pre B model?  No firing pin retaining pin if the slide?  Rounded off trigger guard on the front of it vs. the straight surface with grooves in it?

If you remove the barrel, turn the slide upside down and look at the top/inside of the barrel bushing is it smooth and uniformly round like the rest of the inside of the barrel bushing?  Or does it have a tapered hole in it with the bottom of the front side tenon visible?

If you can see the front sight tenon it's a Pre B and changing out the front sight is pretty much "not done."  Not because it can't be but because many people don't like to mess with a Pre B model.  Replacement sights are about non-existent.  People who replace them have to sent the slide to a shop that will mill the slide for installation of an aftermarket type front sight.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Appreciate the answers and I suspect it's a pre-B and not worth messing with.  I guess my next option is to see the eye doctor for a touch up on my Lasik! Thanks and happy shooting!

Red fingernail polish helps.  Or any of the others colors that your eyes find favorable.

Kabong is spot on.

Dab paint on it!

Maybe you all can help with another problem...when I was reassembling the gun, I put the take down lever back in, but suspect I didn't do it right cause the slide won't return to battery...ugh. I tried to insert a picture of the gun with this issue, but I couldn't insert the picture...least of my problems as of now.

Basically the slide is "locked" back about an inch. I can still lock it all the way back like normal, but it won't return to battery when you release the slide release. I tried to remove the slide release, but it won't budge and I didn't want to screw it up.

Thoughts on how to remedy the situation myself before taking it to a gunsmith?

The slide stop could be jammed and will need some persuasion to remove.  I'd get a plastic handle screwdriver or other plastic punch to help it out.

To install insert the slide stop partially then draw the slide back to align the marks and finish installing.

Cheers,
Toby

Don't know about everyone else but I always use something to get that slide stop started moving to the left.  Gotta pop that spring up out of the groove and some guns are pretty hard to get that started.

My P07 DUTY is 11 years old now and I still use that plastic base plate on the magazine to push the right side/end of the slide stop pin flush with the right side of the frame and then wiggle/twist/pull while moving the slide just a bit to the front/rear to get that thing worked out of the frame.

Never had to hit it with anything, just get it started with something that won't scratch/gouge the slide or pin.

When you take the slide stop out get those witness marks on the left side of the frame and slide lined up before pushing on the pin.  Usually the slide has to move back to where it's contacting the hammer if the hammer is sitting on the half cock notch.  Same for reinstalling the slide stop.  Line up those marks and push it in to the frame completely.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
