SP-01 double action issue
« on: January 09, 2024, 06:48:53 PM »
Hi!
I got a CZ SP-01 and last year replaced the trigger with a single action only trigger. I was confused all year as to why it would occasionally stop working... only later realized that I had left everything else stock (without removing the disconnector) and that was most likely the issue.
I switched the trigger to a SA/DA trigger today and found that double action doesn't work unless I first gently pull on the hammer a couple mm before I hear a click, then the double action works.
Have I destroyed something internally with my first attempt? I wasn't able to find any other information on this specific issue.

Does your DA/SA trigger have pre and over travel setscrews?  If so I'd remove them and see if that was your issue.

Another easy thing to try is to increase your triggerbar spring tension on the right side (pull the spring upward to slightly bent it and provide more preload).  Make sure it is properly in the groove in the triggerbar.

The disconnector wing isn't slipping down into the triggerbar as the trigger moves to rest (reset).  Try pushing the trigger forward and see if it resets.

You might just have a timing issue that would require slight rework of the disconnector.

Cheers,
Toby

You were right, the pre-travel screw was preventing the trigger bar from moving forwards enough to engage the double action correctly.
Thank you so much!

Excellent!

Don't adjust them so tight that they will fail when the gun gets dirty.  You want a little extra play in there.  Here are some good instructions to follow when setting the set screws:  https://cdn1.cajungunworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/28155351/How-To-Adjusting-Trigger-Screws.pdf

It looks like there's actually no space at all for the pre-travel screw... I removed it and the mechanics work now.
I can see into the screw-hole that the pre-travel screw, if installed, would be impinging on the trigger spring, so I'm just going to have to deal with the 1mm or so of pre-travel.
