CZ 75 B SA conversion projects
« on: January 12, 2024, 06:29:33 PM »
I’ve got one 75 B SA and getting another next week, and I’ve already got plans for both, but would appreciate some input from folks with more experience.

One is going to be converted to a Bull Semi Compact with a Bull Compact upper, and one into a Long Slide/CTS with a gen 1 Tactical Sport upper, both of which I’ve recently acquired.

The frame I have is used but not upgraded in any way other than a set of decent tall FO target sights. The frame I’m transferring next week has at least an upgraded SA CGW trigger and trigger pin, likely spring as well.  But the hammer is stock and the firing pin retaining pin appears to be as well, suggesting only the trigger, pin and spring were upgraded.

The Bull Compact slide seems to fit on my current SA frame - I haven’t gotten a spacer yet, but it slid on from both ends of the slide just fine. The TS slide does not.

I’m thinking about getting trigger springs and pins, spacers, hammers and hammer springs from CGW and putting the Bull Compact together on my own, and sending the other frame with the TS upper to CZC and just having them make me a CTS or something similar out of it.

Thoughts from anyone with experience doing either of these builds?

I have a CTS. CZ Custom does a nice job milling the upper to fit the frame.

I saw one available recently for a good price (IMO), but I’d literally just bought both SA pistols and both uppers in the last month, and couldn’t pull the trigger on it.  😩

I had to clearance my frame of my 75B with a sharpie sandpaper and dychem to get the bull slide to fit. There are is just a slight whitness mark where I made it work. If yours fits without any frame clearancing you are ahead of the game on that one. Too bad the TS slide wont drop in.
Sounds like a fun project.

SMLaw…..
Good for you finding a/few 75 BSA frames. By far my favorite. I have a couple 75BSAs running Bull Shadow slides. All needed to be blended for the slides to clear. It can seem to work without work but don’t forget the slide will get warmer than the frame so it may drag. I had that occur. Now I also have a compact Bull slide and that one unit looked like it might have cleared without the frame worker ….but mine were done already so I’m just guessing. Will tell ya this…..shooting the compact Bull slide on my BSA frame (that is changed to DA/SA) is my favorite shooter. Can’t tell ya why … but it is.
I’m sure you know this but just to remind you the Bull Shadows and the Compact Bull slides are NON firing block slides only. You will need to remove the spring and lifter from the frame and install the spacer to delete that block action.      Also don’t go to light on recoil springs. I think 14# is the lowest you want to go. I found that if you go lighter the recoil spring plug gets beat up. I run a #15 for both factory and light reloads. It works well.
Have fun with your stuff!!!

Oh yeah, hoping so.  I’ve just got the big that won’t quit biting 😆 already brainstorming 2 other builds for SP-01 frames - a dedicated Kadet .22 and another bull compact (prob have CZC chop the frame to fit flush).  If only my pocketbook were as big as my dreams 😆😅

You make some excellent points, some I hadn’t considered.. I’ll have to see how it goes after the CGW kit comes in.

You also make me itch more, because now I kind of want to turn one into a DA/SA 😆
