I really like the look of the factory CZ magwell.  That noted, adding that magwell requires a change to short grips, replacing the mainspring plug (with one without the lanyard loop), and using some form of mag “extension” to facilitate actually inserting the mag.  BTW, I live in California.

I started by getting the factory CZ magwell (black, #40280, https://shop.cz-usa.com/aluminum-magwell-large-frame-black40280.html ) and the flat-bottom mainspring plug (https://shop.cz-usa.com/main-spring-plug-75-850420031001.html ). Added a pair of short, black LOK grips with palm swell and thumb relief (https://lokgrips.com/gun-grips/cz-75/palm-swell/full-checkered/cz-75-palm-swell-full-checkered-g10/).

Then I got a factory CZ base pad (https://www.armorycraft.com/product-page/copy-of-cz-75-base-pad-plus-2-black).  Possibly the factory PN is 40241 (https://shop.cz-usa.com/black-aluminum-2-75-85-base-pad.html ) but I can’t find a pic of that part to confirm.  Yes, both pages say it’s a +2 but it does NOT allow you to add any rds when installed on the California-legal, factory CZ 10 rd mag that currently comes with the SP-01 (#11132).  Quite seriously, not happening!  CZ Parts also offers a similar part (which may actually be the factory CZ part), see https://www.cz-parts.com/cz-shadow-2-cz-75b-sp-01-cz-75-p-01-compact-alu-mag-pad-2rnd  Please note one difference between these two base pads – the location of the retention set screw.  The first is on top and does not quite allow insertion of the set screw - but not an issue in any real sense because, once the pad is installed, it is not coming off on its own (the factory mag’s base lock is not used and the spring retains the base – you need some object to press the spring down to slide on the pad).  The second has the set screw coming in from the side.  [I just ordered one of the second to compare (before I shell out for ones to go with my other factory mags).  I’ll update this thread when I get and install it.]

I would have included a pic but IMGUR does not work for me…and I understand adding links to other forums is not cool (if and when I get around to posting elsewhere).

Hope other Californians, and other restricted-state members, find this helpful.

Thanks for sharing!
You must have bought the magwell and plug a while ago since now it is OOS.

I opted to Cajunize mine and make it single action.
Also replaced the rear sight with an adjustable.

Sports CZ gold alum grips.

Yours ought to turn out nice!

The magwell link was for ref, I bought it from Armory Craft - https://www.armorycraft.com/product-page/cz-75-aluminum-magwell

The plug was purchased thru Numrich, see https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/631030 - paid thru the nose!

My SP-01 is at CGW now, hoping to get it back soon.  Will post full details when I get it back and get a few rounds thru it.

Update on what was suppose to be a base pad with the set screw coming in from the side. Seems the seller (CZ-Parts, in CZ) failed to update their product page image...so I received essentially the same top-screw design as the one I already had.  Interesting since, when I complained that I got the wrong part, they advised that the top-screw design is, "just how the pads arrive to us from CZ factory, and it is like that already for quite some time."  Suffice it to say, if I decide to get more, I'll purchase from Armory Craft.

Hopefully CA's restricted-cap law will some day be behind us and we can buy CZ factory high-cap mags.

Ok, I'm going to be an idiot: if the spring retains the base on the baseplate, how do you disassemble it for cleaning?  ???

That's good because the one you referenced in the first post is for a TS variant not a 75 variant.  They are different.  The armory craft linked above is the correct magwell for a 75 variant.

I wouldn't rely only on the spring to hold on the mag base in place.  With a sufficiently forceful mag insertion, you can slide the mag base slide off and have its guts puke all over.

Toby

The spring doesn't lock it in place.  It will hold it mostly but if you apply enough force it will slide off without too much trouble.  I have Taran Tactical, Springer, and CZ Custom mag bases.  I like the Taran Tactical and CZ Custom designs for quick easy disassembly at the range but secure locking.  The set screw design mag bases do work (if you use the set screw) but they are not quick to disassemble.

The Henning mag bases also look nice but I have not tried them yet.

Henning works well for me.  There is a spring loaded plunger on the back and you depress it to release the base.  I also like the Armanov but they do not (the last time I looked) have a +6 base.
If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Some "clarification" re the 2 mag bases I now have. They are both now attached to the CA-legal, 10-round, factory mags that came with the pistol.  The pistol is for home defense, not run and gun where I might be dumping mags into sand, dirt, mud, etc.  I have zero expectation of getting the mag interiors dirty and no plans of every cleaning those interiors.  And I have no expectation of slamming home a mag with sufficient force to overcome the position of the spring and sliding off the base.  I seriously doubt that doing it unintentionally, i.e., without a tool, is even possible.

BTW, installing the base is not a snap, the blood I drew trying to restrain the spring while engaging the base attests to that. I turned up, post-bandaging, using one of the handles of a pair of insullation-wrapped pliers to hold the spring down while sliding on the base.

In regards whether the magwell is the right one for my CA-legal, SP-01 pistol is still to be 100% confirmed, though I am very sure it is based on the Armory's product page text. The pistol is due back from CGW on Friday at which time I will try to install it.  In talking with Armory just now on the phone, they confirmed it is a CZ factory part they sold me, not a part they manufactured or sourced elsewhere.  It sure looks exactly like what is shown on the CZ (factory) product page.  That said, the text on the CZ product page is very uninformative, "ALUMINUM MAGWELL LARGE FRAME BLACK".  [I bought from Armory because CZ had no stock.]  Seems, from what you say, "large frame" for CZ means "wide frame" not "full size", as is full size 75.  Seems I got lucky in going to Armory.

Interesting side note/question - since the 75 SP-01 is available in both low-cap configuration (01152 - what I have) with 10-rd mags and "regular" configuration (89352) with 19-rd mags, doesn't the "regular" version need a "wide frame" to support the 19 rd mags?  Thanks.

Same exact gun (assuming sights and grips are the same) between the two.  The magazine capacity is the difference.  Typically the magazine tube has some sort of constriction formed into the tube to limit capacity in restricted states.

CZ has 4 different magazine tubes for their guns.  The standard 75 series (75B, SP01, Shadow, Shadow2, Rami, P01, PCR, etc...), P Series (P10, P07, P09, etc...), TS variants (TS, TSO, TS2, TS2O, Checkmate), and CZ97 variants.  Obviously there are different lengths (capacity) for each of these four tube sizes but respectively the cross section is the same (75 series all have the same cross section dimension, etc...).

The TS frame is the "large frame" variant as it has a wider magazine tube among other widths.

Toby

Another update:

Previously, using the noted base pad extension seemed to work fine when I was loading the mag with this loader (https://store.mycrisisgear.com/products/roadrunner_loader), using it, as directed, with the butt of the mag firmly up against my chest and focusing all my attention on pulling the "handle" back.

Today, when I didn't want to fuss with that loader (it picks up the ammo from an ammo box or tray) - I just wanted to load 10 rounds of loose snap caps - I grabbed my Maglula.  And guess what I found.  The extension was sliding all over the place!!!  While it did not get anywhere near coming off entirely, it was sure sloppy.

I've since swapped back to the factory base.

So much for wishful thinking...money wasted!  [My favorite pastime.]

You might want to give these a shot.  They should use the standard CZ retention plate.  They are contoured at the top for a magwell and should work.  I'd call Henning and talk with them to make sure on the SP-01.  They will fit the magazine but I'm not sure the magwell is the same on the SP-01.

There are two 10 rd mags, one is a 14 round with a plastic extension the other is a 17 rd mag from Mec-Gar.  Both use dimples on the side to reduce capacity.

For use with a mag-well I would recommend the 17 round (restricted of course) with any mag extension, there are many to choose from.

Not sure I understand which one you have.

If I had known how much better being retired is than working I would have done it FIRST.

Thanks for the suggestion.  However, note the location of the slide-on slots.  They would leave the body of that pad wrapping upward around the mag body, adding basically nothing to extend the mag assembly below the bottom of the factory magwell and probably not allow the mag to fit into the mag opening in the pistol frame - strange design (to me).  That noted, I looked around a little on their site and found this base, https://www.henningshop.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=1536033&CAT=10024  The associated text poses questions regarding my application.  I'll call them on Monday to get clarification.

Thanks again for pointing me at that site.

The mags I have are CZ #11132 (https://shop.cz-usa.com/11132.html).  The two extensions I bought are of similar design, both with top screw for retention. That screw location does not allow screw insertion (runs into the lip in the bottom of the mag and I'm not going to Dremel the mag to provide clearance).

The 17 round mag mention is not available to me (its CA-restricted) and, if the only diff in what I have and the presumed lack of capacity-restraint dimples in the 17-rder, it would not buy me anything as far added extension, i.e., below the magwell, which is what I'm looking for.  I've "contact-paged" Armory re this item, https://www.armorycraft.com/product-page/armory-craft-plus-4-plus-5-magazine-pad - the images and text do not match, so I've asked for clarification (shows the needed hole to use the retention plate (#38, "magazine base lock" at https://military-spot.com/cz-75-sp-01-spare-parts/).

The quest goes on...
