ICORE
« on: November 05, 2023, 09:32:14 AM »
While not a CZ related thread, thought I’d share a quick note on my recent experience on my first ICORE match.  For those unfamiliar, ICORE is a revolver only sport.  I recently moved and the IDPA matches ended for the season, but ICORE remains scheduled, so I gave it a try yesterday.

Bottom line, it was a hoot, shooting my long neglected S&W M15.  While the stages were simple, they were unforgiving of mistakes.  I shot well, but made a mistake on a limited stage, erroneously reengaging a target after a reload.  Similar scoring zones as USPSA, targets are tombstone shaped; stages I shot yesterday had minimal movement required.

Was a fun day shooting and making new friends, which is why I shoot in competitions.  For those with wheelguns and ICORE nearby, recommend giving it a try

I too have been shooting ICORE and it's a lot of fun.  Premium is placed on accuracy over speed.  You still have to move with purpose and a plan through a stage but, that plan needs to optimize getting all A's to do well.  (You cannot out run the lower points associated with hits in C and D zones and still do well like you can with some long USPSA stages) Glad that you discovered it.

Our club lost our IDPA match director due to a health event.  He is recovering but nobody else stepped up to drive IDPA and so they replaced it with ICORE.  Many of the club members are jazzed about it and have started shooting regional matches as well.  I haven't tried it yet but probably will have time after hunting season is over.

I just don't have enough time and prefer to participate in USPSA when I can get out and shoot.

Cheers,
Toby

Where I moved from, we now rotate monthly IDPA MDs after I performed as MD for ~ a year straight.  It now keeps the stages fresh, gets more folks engaged in the management of the game and encourages new volunteers.  Key to making that happen is to expand the SO base, which I did as one of the state’s SOIs.

We also separate the monthly and specialty match MDs from the club IDPA POC as many don’t like to deal with the $ side of the game ( including me).  Hope your IDPA club gets restarted.

Shot another ICORE match today.  Small affair as temps didn’t get above 19 degrees.   Fun time despite the cold, did reasonably well and finished on a high note 14 As, 1 B on the last stage.  Shot my 3” Ruger GP100 WC II.

ICORE is becoming more interesting with recognition of Big 6 Category (6 round 155 Power Factor) under their Limited 6 Division.  Good place to run a 5" SW625.
