Sar K12 Sport - Which firing pin?
« on: February 04, 2024, 03:41:51 PM »
Hey all,

Bought K12 used, had a bunch of stuff done to it already, don't know what exactly but it's the captain of all light strikes
Read through the posts on All the Upgrades and the easiest fix seemed to be order the Patriot Defense extended pin that "drops right in"

Now the link on the post is dead, but there's a photo showing the short frame pin, and all sorts of other references to short frame parts work with it so I bought this one (https://patriotdefense.com/patriot-defense-firing-pin-extended-sf/) but could not get it to fit in, wouldn't clear the FPB (I tried A LOT) and have since returned it.

So in the Galloway thread I see a link to the PD long frame pin this one:  (https://patriotdefense.com/patriot-defense-firing-pin-extended-lf/)
I also saw the Xtreme one on there and the shape looks a lot closer to the one that's already in the gun

Does anybody know for sure that the Patriot Defense LF one will definitely fit? or the Xtreme? (long or short?) Should I add on a matching FBP just in case?

Please and Thank you. It's a nightmare to hunt down info for SARs.

I also had light strikes when I installed the Galloway kit in my K12 Sport. I ended up doing the typical CZ/Tanfo polish on the internals, stoned a relief on the sear (like a 1911), cut one coil off the stock hammer spring and reinstalled it. I'm not saying this is what you should do, but my light strikes went away and I have a 3lb. 6oz. trigger that feels like 2 1/2lb.

And I have no idea about the firing pin. Have you tried calling PD and asking them?
No matter where you're going, there you are.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Gave them a call today, spoke to a nice lady but she could not confirm if the firing pins would work unfortunately.

So jury is still out for now

Call this a Not-an-Update but decided to go in the other direction and try slightly nicer ammo

Ran a few boxes of Federal and Remington Range thru it with zero issue

Here's a little table of bad to good Light Strikes:

ZSR = Every other shot
SARUSA Brand Nato (which I'm pretty sure is also just ZSR) = every 2-3 shots
PMC = A few times a mag
Blazer = about the same as PMC
Magtech = one or two out of a box
Rem Range = Perfect
Federal Champ = Perfect

Maybe I got spoiled/too comfortable with the CZs eating everything lol

So for an extra dollar a box vs $50-$60 going down the parts rabbit hole, that's 2,500 - 3,000 rounds before I break even, I think I can live with just using the better ammo, by then it might be time for some new parts anyway.
